Delight your senses with your choice of performances at the Grand Opera House in the heart of Belfast. The building was constructed in an Oriental style at the end of the 19th century. Select from musicals, dramas, operas, dance shows and comedies for an entertaining evening in the Northern Ireland capital.

Admire the intriguing design of the building, with its white turrets and redbrick façade. Acclaimed theater architect Frank Matcham designed the structure, which was built in 1895. See a dramatic play or concert in the main auditorium, which is of Victorian design. Reserve one of the boxes for an intimate view of the stage. Appreciate the excellent acoustics from your comfortable seat. Purchase ice cream and drinks during intermission.

Watch a performance in the cozy Baby Grand Studio it has just 100 seats. Get snacks and refreshments from one of the three bars in the opera house. Take a group tour, available with prior booking, to go backstage. The website offers a virtual tour, with views from the stalls, the upper circle and the higher seats.

Learn about the intriguing history of Belfast’s principal theater and the names that have graced this stage. Popular performers from the first half of the 20th century include comedian and singer Harry Lauder and multi-talented entertainer Gracie Fields. Later in the 1900s the venue was used to celebrate the end of World War II.

Purchase tickets online, by phone or in person at the theater’s booking office in the foyer. It opens daily from morning until late, although it is closed on Sundays. If you’re planning a Belfast wedding, reunion or corporate event, consider renting a portion of the theater.

The Grand Opera House is in the center of Belfast. Arrive at Great Victoria Street Railway Station and walk east for a couple of blocks to reach the site. Nearby attractions include the Belfast City Hall, the Linen Hall Library and the Victoria Square Shopping Center.
