Compass Cottage lies in the heart of the village and is nearby the local pub, The Fisherman’s Return, a 300 year old establishment offering local ales, good food and facilities for families, including a large safe garden. Historic Norwich lies 20 miles to the West with its fine cathedral, ancient cobbled streets and great shops. Great cottage
Great cottage. Really useful having two bathrooms. Stairs are steep and winding but soon got used to them. Good location in the village with beach, shop, cafe, chip shop and very good pub all just a couple of minutes walk away.

Perfect holiday by the sea!
We had a wonderful week at Admiral Cottage with our 2 spaniels, Clover & Ivy. Comfortable throughout, and has everything you might need. Cosy living room, comfy beds and an enormous bath! The garden is secure, which is brilliant for anyone with dogs or children. Such a lovely location. Really close to the beautiful beach and dunes… Perfect for humans and dogs to enjoy and explore. We absolutely fell in love with the village and the area. Local pub has good food and is completely dog friendly, as are the staff. Gorgeous tea room which doubles as the post office, called Poppy's after the owners’ dog who is a big, gentle, fluffy fixture… Again completely dog friendly, including dog snacks on the menu… Our furry babies enjoyed their sausages very much. Great cafe at the beach too. There's a stunning and really atmospheric church ruin (St Mary's) hidden in the woods, which you can walk to, about 3 - 3.5 miles there and back - It even has its own spooky witch legend! We cannot wait to come back, and would very happily stay at Admiral Cottage again.

Fantastic location and accommodation.
We had a great 3 night stay with 2 children and 2 adults. As others have said, the upstairs rm is really only accessible for older children (5/6 +) & adults due to v v steep stairway. Bed upstairs was super comfy, twin beds a little on the hard side for us. Note that only 13 tog duvets were available if this is likely to be a problem. Tbf, we didn't ask for thinner ones as only had 3 nights and were really comfortable with what we had. Very cosy in top room! We used online delivery from Tesco's but village shop is also really well stocked for essentials (needed washing up liquid and washing powder). Pub at rear of property serving great food, but gets v busy around 6 - 8pm. No noise from pub could be heard come late evening. The cottage had everythjng we needed to cook and welcome package was a lovely treat, thank you! Only not given 5 stars as we had to give cookware/kettle/coffee machine/mugs/outdoor furniture a thorough clean on arrival - guess not necessarily used much? Most items that you would put through a dishwasher were clean and all other areas in the cottage were thoroughly clean, with towels and toilet roll being provided. Walk to the beach is 10mins, which was perfect and we felt thoroughly spoilt to have this spot on our doorstep, inc a really well served café too. (Cafe = Gf bacon rolls available, but other allergies may struggle). We hope to return at some point and explore more!

Dog friendly seaside stay
Pretty cottage in the centre of a dog friendly village, short walk to the lovely sandy beach and next-door to the pub. Worked very well for 3 adults and 2 dogs, we were very lucky with great weather so the garden became an extra room which was extremely helpful for us and secure for the dogs. Clean and as described on the listing, only issue was that the microwave didn't work.

Watch your head
Lovely little cottage which is located well for the pub, beach and shop. Cozey with everything you need to enjoy your stay. As stated stairs are very steep and the door into the cottage is very low so watch your head. Pub offers an excellent range of food and drinks and is dog friendly. Chip shop is also excellent. Even the weather was spot on.

Another great stay at this lovely cottage
This is our fourth time at Admiral Cottage. We had a lovely time as always. The cottage is just perfect for the two of us our dog Albus, and is like a home from home. It's perfectly situated within a five minute walk to the dunes and onto the beach. Winterton has everything we need for a great holiday, including the pub and fish and chip shop! We can also highly recommend the beach cafe.

Great Cottage. Great location.
We really enjoyed our stay at Admiral Cottage. The location is great. The Village is small and peacful, with a shop, post office, chip shop and a dog friendly pub that serves great beer and food and is only a 2 minute walk away. The cottage is literaly a 10 minute walk from the dunes and beach. The cottage was lovely. Generaly clean warm and well presented. The only minor criticism we had was that some of the crockery wasnt very clean, but soon remedied. Its worth noting that the stairs to the double room are very steep and narrow. But on the whole,a great place to stay.....

Lovely cosy cottage
We have stayed here before and just love it! We have two labradors they love it too! It’s just a lovely cosy little place. Very steep stairs to second bedroom so be careful but both bedrooms beautifully clean as were the bathrooms. Kitchen is small but well equipped and small enclosed garden is very pretty. The porch is great for wet clothes boots etc. Only slight criticism is that the living room smelled very doggy when we arrived but we sprayed air fresheners and opened the doors and it was fine.

Fabulous!
What a fabulous little cottage - with everything you could want. It was spotlessly clean and the welcome pack was a lovely touch. Great showers and comfy beds. The pub at the back was friendly and served great food. Seeing the seals on the beach was the icing on the cake. Winterton-on-sea is a pretty little village and we hope to return. Couldn’t have wished for a better place for dog-owners.

A much needed break
We really needed a fully relaxing break. We've had builders in at home and just needed to sit back and relax. Admirals Cottage was warm, comfortable and a great location in Winterton. Having a parking space is a boon. The rear garden is secure with good lighting in these dark nights. The beds and pillows are very comfortable. Great to have dressing gowns and the shower is first class. The log burner was brilliant. The cottage was warm and toasty. Even more so with the log burner. A metal ashes bucket might be handy to have. Lovely welcome pack. Winterton is well placed to visit the Broads. The pub is brilliant, great staff and fab food. The locals are welcoming and very dog friendly. Thanks for a great rest. It was everything we needed and our dogs were so relaxed.

Admiral's Cottage is warm, comfortable, spotless and in a fantastic location for Winterton beach. We've stayed there several times. It's got everything you need, plus you're - literally - round the corner from a great pub (Fisherman's Return) and under five minutes' walk from the sea. Great welcome pack, helpful host. Thoroughly recommended.

Wonderful
The property was a lovely cottage. Home from home. Couldn't ask for more. Warm and close to the beach. Was a wonderful week we all enjoyed. Saw the seals at a distance of course. Saw the windmill at Horsey and had lovely walks close by. Weather was great but would still have enjoyed even if it had rained. The cottage is completely dog friendly. Safe and warm. Clean and cozy. Will stay again or at one of the sister cottages they all look good. Was welcomed with two bottles of wine and some biscuits. Didn't want to come home what a wonderful cottage
