Gruž Harbour is the main maritime entrance to Dubrovnik, a busy port for yachts, ferries and cruise ships. Near the harbor is the Dubrovnik Bus Terminal where services will take you to the Old Town, a 10-minute trip, and the outer suburbs. The large dock sits in a sheltered bay approximately 1.4 miles (2 kilometers) from Dubrovnik’s Old Town.Go for a leisurely stroll along the promenades, then sit on one of the benches and watch the vessels come and go. Have a meal in one of the restaurants overlooking the water or grab an ice cream and enjoy this less-busy part of Dubrovnik. One of the harbor’s most popular attractions is the daily fruit, vegetable and fish market. It’s situated on the harbor side, near the ferry terminal. Sample some of the region’s specialties, including locally made goat cheese, olive oil and wine, and buy fresh local produce such as figs, tomatoes, oranges and cabbage. Dubrovnik has some very attractive island neighbors, including Lopud, Sipan and Koločep. Explore their beauty by taking one of the regular boat excursions from Gruž. You won’t be able to see them all in one day, as it’s worth spending at least a few hours on each. Take the two-hour ferry from Gruž to the forested national park of Mljet on the western part of Mljet Island. This vast landscape features caves, secluded coves, salt lakes and dense woods. For up-to-date information on ferry schedules visit the official website of the Dubrovnik Tourism Board. Gruž Harbour is approximately a 20-minute walk from the Old Town. There are also regular bus services. If you are driving, there is a 24-hour paid parking lot at the harbor and paid parking in the nearby streets.
