It was quiet when I visited but there are a few restaurants/dining options a short distance from the property. There's also a lot of historical information around the town if you have time.

Lovely cottage
"It’s a lovely cottage, spacious and homely, on a farm with view of fields, hills and sheep. It’s in a good location for visiting all the local historic areas. Hadrian’s wall, the Roman museums etc we even drove to Edinburgh on one of the days."

The town is surrounded by beautiful countryside. The Manor House Inn on the high road served some lovely food and excellent real ale. I really don't know why the Romans ever left !!
