Hana is commonly known as the “Last Hawaiian Place.” Step back into the charm and casual elegance of old Hawai’i in an authentic, meticulously renovated plantation owners home in Hana.

Once used to house managers from the sugar cane plantation days, this home, named Hale Ulu Lulu, underwent a major rebuilding (completed in early 2020 and constantly maintained) and is now completely restored with attention to historic detail, while providing every modern convenience. We There is an open and airy layout with ocean and pastoral views , elegantly detailed, vintage style bath with dual-sided claw foot tub (great for romantic baths for two), granite kitchen counters with reclaimed Koa wood bar/counter and trim accents. A sliding panel of framed Tapa cloth between the bedroom and living area allows you to relax in bed to the incredible view or, when closed, to have complete privacy from the rest of the house.

The furnishings are comfortable and upgraded with a plush leather couch and chair. We have designed the cottage with warm tropical colors, original local artwork, Hawaiian antiques and Polynesian exotica. Though the house has a tasteful and elegant décor, you can still put your feet on the furniture and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. You will arrive to rooms filled with brilliant tropical flowers and orchids, 100% cotton, high thread count, quality linens and towels and quality soaps as well as coffee and green tea and fresh fruit to start off your first day with us – fine details on par with the finest luxury hotel at a fraction of comparable prices (really).

Hale Ulu Lulu is part of a sprawling two-acre property surrounded by gracious lawns and verdant tropical gardens and foliage.

We are located just three miles south of Hana Town in the Maka’alae district, which is considered the most highly desired area of Hana. You are sure to fall in love with the picturesque and pastoral landscape, the ever-changing ocean colors and the gentle sound of the waves lulling you to sleep at night. Walk 20 minutes to the world famous Hamoa Beach (or a 4 minute drive) or 20 minutes in the other direction to the Venus pool- two of Hana’s most desired attractions – practically in our back yard!

Superb Cottage Right in the Heart of Hana
The property was a gem. The directions provided was so helpful. The location is right off the Hana Highway and the locale was so beautiful, and near to lots of main attractions that Hana is known for. Our property was clean and nicely setup for our welcome. Lots of facility was available if needed. In all, an awesome place to stay at Hana. Highly recommended.

Tranquil Hawaiian Heritage
This cottage is just right for two people. My husband and I wanted a quiet and comfortable place to relax, and this cottage delivered. We enjoyed the birds, the sunrise, and three chickens that quietly roamed the expansive front yard. We cooked our main meals in the well supplied kitchen and also took advantage of the grill. Quiet Hana town isn't far, and we were able to walk 20 mins to a nearby beach. There's plenty of privacy from the neighboring house on the property. The property manager provided a helpful packet of some places in the area to explore, although we found some of the information needs updating. For example, the hotel mentioned in the packet regarding live Hawaiian music has changed hands and no longer provides live music, and we didn't find fresh fish until we went to the farmer's market. The rest of the packet is spot on with good information. Nearby Haleakala National Park has a couple of great hikes - this is not to be confused with the summit access to Haleakala that's popular among many tourists for sunrise viewing. We loved our stay here in this cottage and would book again.

Bucolic Beautiful Hana
This cottage is old Hawaii perfection. If you can't relax here at the edge of the world with an amazing rainforest around you then you in are real trouble. The location is perfect and it allows you to enjoy the Venus Pool and the National Park, waterfalls and epic Pipiwai Trail before everyone else drives up for the day. The photos are totally accurate. Bed is comfortable although one night we did get cold and could not find and extra blanket. (It was strangely cold in Feb.) The kitchen has everything you need. We loved hearing the birds and the rain on the metal roof. PARADISE!

Lovely peaceful retreat
This lovely cottage is just south of Hana town and is the perfect retreat to get away from it all. The cottage has an open airy feel with wonderful air flow throughout. Loved the claw foot tub for relaxing soaks. If you want a vacation home that feels like real Hawaii this is it!

Sunrise in Hana.
Charming cottage, clean, well maintained, all necessary kitchen utensils. Very comfortable for a couple. Most importantly, the sunrises when you drink your first cup of coffee, stirring on the front porch, is breathtaking! Hana is one of the kind.

Beautiful Relaxing Week in Remote Paradise
The owners over delivered in every way. As advised we bought most groceries in the arrival city. Plenty of salad dressing and mustard were left by previous visitors unopened. Might get sugar or honey if you desire. Just bring your bathing suits and sunglasses.

Hana home has my heart
Everything I needed was there. Best location. Just what I needed. I grew up in a rural area in the States and was accustomed to using fans instead of AC and not afraid of the drive to get there. If you are not used to these things, don't pass this up. Drive slow (pull over for locals), take in the scenery, stop and talk to the people at the different stands and shops, and consider this house the bougiest glamping option you'll find. It's a short drive to Hana town and right in between Venus pool and Huli Huli chicken. Be sure to read the guide in the table. It tells you everything you can expect.

Hana is the best
We come to Hana about once a year. It is so relaxed and peaceful. This cottage was a perfect place to stay for the most part. Very pleasant, clean, and welcoming. Makes you feel like you are really in Hana rather than just at a resort. Only negative was the noise from lawn mowing and other landscaping work. It can be pretty loud during most of the day and we just seemed to hit a lot of it. Would stay here again, however.

My sister and I drove the road to Hana and spent the night in this home. The host was great. The house was great. The home was so welcoming when we arrived. The detailed directions where spot on. The home had everything we needed and more such as bug spray and sunscreen. We loved the vintage hawaiian decor and the flowers and leaves theoughout. Perfect place for our overnight trip!
