I loved staying with Melba and Alberto in their family home. Their home is lovely and they are very welcoming and friendly. Melba speaks English enough to make sure you know and have everything you need. The room was clean, comfortable with an ensuite and its own terrace! The view was special. There's A/C and a fan, a safe. Melba cooked me a meal when I stayed. It was delicious and I ate in on the main terrace and watched the sun set over Havana. I gave a couple of days notice re the meal and everything was spot on. Communication before I arrived was efficient and instructions for arrival clear and easy to follow. I'd happily return. I even got a small leaving gift that I will keep forever. Thank you Melba and Alberto!

This is the perfect spot for solo traveller or two people. Well-located, lots of eateries around and just a few steps off Malecón. The host’s family was so friendly kind and welcoming. And the view omg the view. I can just sit at the balcony for hours in the morning and at sunset, nothing can beat the view

Lovely place with lovely hosts. Wonderful view from the room and apartment with a large balcony, it has everything you need in a very central area of Havana, close to the sea. Loved the breakfast as well. Great WiFi which is quite rare in Cuba.

This is a well maintained apartment building very clean and has elevator., it is a block to the Malecon easy walking to restaurants, shopping and has weekend market where the locals sell goods and perfrom entertainment, here you get the real Havana experience. My favorite was that it was walking distance to Casa Música where you can enjoy big Cuban Bands dance to salsa and other styles of music. The apartment itself was super clean, the host lovely and the breakfast awesome!

El81 is a pleasure to visit. From the terrace for breakfast to its location 10 minutes to the Prado and the incredibly helpful family who host you, the apartment is a great find. The rooms each have a private bathroom and are very spacious for either a couple, a family travelling together or friends. You also have the ability to request home-cooked excellent and filling meals. Very much enjoyed this stay - with two teens! - and relaxing at night with a drink and looking at the Havana sky.

I stayed in Havana for two weeks for work, and the highlight of my trip was el81 Guesthouse. I cannot recommend it highly enough. From the warm hospitality to the convenient location and delicious food, it exceeded all my expectations. Whether you're a solo traveler, a couple, or a small group looking to explore Havana, this guesthouse is a gem. Melba, Alberto, and Sandra—a beautiful family—went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and comfortable throughout my stay. They thoughtfully arranged a taxi to pick me up at the airport and were always available to assist with anything I needed, ensuring that every detail of my visit was seamless. Their warmth and care truly made me feel at home. The guesthouse itself is outstanding. My room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and offered a breathtaking view of the city from the eighth floor (see photos!). My favorite spot, however, was the terrace. Melba and Alberto have created a lush garden filled with beautiful plants, including blooming orchids that added to the charm of my stay. Every morning, I enjoyed a delightful breakfast here (included with the stay), accompanied by the cheerful songs of their rescue canary, Max. Guests also have the option of having dinner prepared for only $15 per meal. Melba is an exceptional cook—her ropa vieja and soup are absolutely unforgettable. Well worth it……
My stay here was excellent. The wifi was strong when you needed it. The breakfast was very good, with fruit juice, refills, a form of toast, coffee, refills, fruit and eggs to order. I had a room ( in a family’s apartment ) with views of the city and of the sea. It was within easy walk of the Malecon and the “ city centre”. I highly recommend.

If you looking for a nice place to stay in Havana, these guys are best. Very helpful, great food and lovely views of the sea. Place is very central and walking to everywhere is easy! The hosts are very nice and thank you for making our trip so nice. They arranged for our taxi, and food was a blessing! Far from home this was our home. Highly recommend staying with Melba and Alberto. They were excellent hosts, their home is clean, spacious and comfortable. And conveniently located. My cousin and I walked to most places. Every morning, they provided us breakfast and delicious Cuban coffee! They were able to book tours for us, and give us great advice on how to get around. I am recommending my parents stay with them later this year when they come to Cuba and would recommend them to anyone else I hear is traveling. Thank you Melba and Alberto for your hospitality!

What an amazing place! The room is clean, airy, very spacious, well equipped, everything works. It has a lovely, quite large balcony with a great view of the city, its historical buildings and the ocean. The hosts are impeccable: very friendly, extremely polite. They were very helpful with the taxi rides to and from the airport, the currency exchange, maps, dinner reservations, all done very professionally as a hotel concierge. I am definitely going back! This property and the host is magnificent...if I have a suggestion it would be that they eased up the no visitor rule, I have Cuban friends and not one time I was able to bring them in offer a cold beverage or let them use the toilet...that's not good. And the other thing is they kept turning off the wi fi..for long periods of time I had no internet connection in fact I was watching a movie and all of the sudden...gone Besides that everything else was super...but I won't return.

Great place and great family!
When you walk in to the building, you might be a bit concerned, but not to worry, once you get out of the elevator on their floor, the home is beautiful. Alberto and Melba were kind, warm, and helpful. Their place is clean, orderly, and offered everything we needed, at a very reasonable price. They provided coffee and breakfast in the morning and even rum one evening. The location is great. Their terrace is absolutely beautiful with city and ocean views. The room we slept in was comfortable and the bathroom worked just fine. As an fyi, the Wi-Fi is not always the best. You have to ask them to provide it and they may have to reconnect from time to time. Melba has beautiful plants throughout her home and is so sweet! Alberto is also very kind. He even set up nice exercise equipment for the active travelers! There’s a heavy bag, free weights, a pull-up bar, weight bench, a stationary bike, and more. I would recommend this location for travelers with or without families/children. If I come back one day, I would choose to stay with them again.

Fabulous find. Fabulous people. Like having your own personal concierge and cook. Havana is a shock for first time travelers. Supplies are scarce and people are suffering since the pandemic. You wouldn’t know it with Melba and Alberto though. We speak decent Spanish so were able to learn a lot about Cuba’s history and culture from this well educated couple. Even if you don’t speak much Spanish, they will help you navigate in Cuba. Our room and bathroom were private and up a flight of stairs. We dined in the common areas of the flat. Guests have access to good water, a tea kettle, and coffee (made by Alberto and delicious Cuban style) almost any time of day. Melba is a wonderful cook and can do dinners on the terrace by request. Breakfast of your choice is included. A/C was cold. Window coverings. Amazing views. Typical Cuban beds, so on the firm side. Good shower. We will be returning!
