PeaceLodge - Nature, Seclusion, and Romance

The beauty of PeaceLodge is its location. We are far removed yet still convenient to several points of interest. Visit our website listed under 'Links & Video' for a Portfolio - Interior, Exterior, and Aerial views, and see what really sets it apart.

This 'Mountain Getaway' is secluded on 28 acres that includes wildflowers, hardwoods, pines, mountain laurels, and creek frontage with access for fishing and canoeing. Wildlife is abundant, including deer, raccoon, bobcat, black bear, turkey, and hawk.

This private luxury mountain retreat is located on Big Reed Island Creek in Dugspur, Virginia. Our retreat includes several unique features to make your getaway really special. They include the following: The master suite has an Airbath tub for a relaxing bath for one or two. The first-floor suite offers an aromatherapy steam shower. We offer both a wood-burning fireplace.

A 4x4 or AWD is required to access the last 1300 feet to the PeaceLodge.
No worries if you do not own one. We provide a 4x4 Dodge Durango that sets at the Mountain Crest for your access to and from the PeaceLodge. Of course, the Dodge Durango is not to be taken off the property.

The following attractions are located within 30 minutes or less:
New River Foster Falls Recreation Area; New River Trail; Blue Ridge Parkway, Mabry Mill, Meadows of Dan, Galax, and Floyd, VA.

Conveniently located 3.4 miles from Virginia Highway 58 in Dugspur. Please contact us for specific directions.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
This three-level retreat offers a bedroom and full bath on each floor along with a full kitchen, dining area, and two living areas. It easily accommodates eight guests. Outdoors there is a large entertaining deck and three covered porches.

Upper Level
The upper-level master suite features a king-sized bed and private bath with double vanities. For that romantic setting or private relaxation period, there is an Airbath tub large enough to accommodate two. This bedroom offers expansive outdoor views as it opens to the living room from the balcony.

Main Level
The main level includes a fully appointed kitchen with stainless steel appliances - large refrigerator, range, microwave oven, and dishwasher. The dining room flows to the living room where a cozy wood-burning fireplace and large satellite HDTV flat-screen is situated for easy viewing. If you prefer, take in the fresh mountain air by simply opening the double patio doors to the custom deck overlooking the river below. A master suite with queen-sized bed and full bath with steam shower is luxuriously appointed on this level also. For easy listening of your favorite tunes or a lively party, a custom built stereo system pipes music into the living area to surely please the most avid listener.

Lower Level
The lower level offers much open space. It includes a full bath with a walk-in cultured marble shower, a large vanity, and a large capacity washer and dryer. The bedroom closes behind pocket doors and includes two twin trundle beds. The living area includes a satellite HDTV, X-box, games, free Wifi, and lots of space for fun. Walk outside onto the private patio and look across to the other mountainside and flowing creek below. Beginning at this level is a beautiful custom wood staircase that rises to the third floor. Whatever level you find yourself on, it can become the most private or lively area of the home. Take your pick as all will please.

The natural beauty of the mountains is perhaps the greatest attraction. When you choose this retreat, worries evaporate, you relax, and reflect on what is really important.

You may opt to canoe the endless miles of trout and nature-filled creeks and rivers. Or inner tube and float downstream all day. The closest body of water is Big Reed Island Creek located at the base of the property. Choose your own type of fishing day or hire a fishing guide for the 'hot spots'. We can assist here. Check out Greasy Creek Outfitters.

If photography is your past time by all means bring your camera. Wildflowers are abundant from late April through the fall. You could encounter deer, wild turkey, raccoon, our resident groundhogs, bob-cats, and yes, black bears. If you see a bear please don't try to approach it or feed it.

If you wish to venture out, you have 28 acres of mountain woods to stroll on. Avid hunters are also welcome. Please adhere to local hunting regulations, use extreme care in the woods, and do not shoot your guns across the river where several deer cross daily. We will advise where we recommend deer hunting endeavors. If you plan on extended hunting trips we gladly welcome a 'walk in the woods' before the season starts.

For the jogger or walker, if it is a workout you desire, simply walk or jog up the driveway! If you make it that far, there are miles of country roads with your own built-in jogging trail right on the property. With over a mile of driveway on the property, you will soon learn that a few laps around the woods covered drive is very relaxing. A walk back down the driveway for your 'cool down' and it's off to the aromatic steam shower! For the more adventurous joggers, simply take a left or right out of the driveway and wear yourself out on the hills through the mountain roads. Happy Jogging!

For all of those 12-ounce curl sports enthusiasts who would rather work out on the back deck, I can not think of a better place to open a cold one, turn on the custom stereo, and enjoy a few tunes.

The owner was great about letting us know what to expect. The place is “fun” to drive into if you enjoy the idea of driving up and down into some mountain roads. The house was pretty awesome too. The area has so much to appreciate.

Wonderful Host
The host is excellent at communication and does insure that you have what is needed to get in and out of the house. As noted in the description the house is difficult to reach, but the host provides a 4x4 as needed. We had a great time, but be prepared for the ruggedness of the house and location.

Great family getaway with everything you could ever want!
The Peace Lodge was one of our favorite stays to date. Randal (host) was amazing and provided all of the information we needed and more. Super accommodating. Best host we have had so far. The house itself is one of a kind and incredible. It was absolutely perfect for our family of 5. It had everything you could ever need and more. Everything inside is top notch. The location was perfect. It was an adventure to get to and then once there, had a ton of great features. The multi level decks provided great view of surrounding nature. The stairs provided access to the river. We bought some tubes at Walmart and would take turns dropping the family off about a mile up the river. It took an hour or more to float back to the house. We had a great time doing this. Overall, we couldn't ask for a better experience. Highly recommend this great place to stay. One of our favorites stays for sure.

My wife and I wanted a nice getaway in the mountains and this was a great place to be. It's very secluded and you're truly one with nature. We took a hike down to the river and it was great. I am sure in the spring it would be a wonderful place to fly fish. If you want a getaway PeaceLodge is for you!

Priceless Mountain escape
This was one of the best trips our family has ever been on. We had so much fun fishing and hanging out in the cabin with our boys cooking s’mores and just doing a little family bonding. Our boys caught there first trout in the beautiful creek just a few hundred feet from the cabin. At night the stars were just amazing

Beautiful Location
The owner was very helpful and easy to work with. The house is beautiful and the location, well let’s just say it’s “Breathtaking”! The house was clean but the ladybugs were in full force and they were on everything and in corners, ceilings, lights, the bathtub and the shower. The kitchen was nice but you need a couple of cookie sheets. The bathrooms were good but we didn’t have any throw rugs so when we got out of the showers or tub especially the tub it was a little slippery. No extra towels one per person. The water was Luke Warm I did not run any cold water for the tub and it still wasn’t hot! Especially when it was cold at night! I did notify the owner that he might have a problem with his septic or venting but we left this morning and I did notify you by text because you do have a sewer, septic, or holding tank issue! Let’s just say that it didn’t smell very pretty yesterday or this morning! Your home was very nice and the communication was fine until we arrived because the WiFi was not working and the cell service was SOS for Verizon or AT&T! We would go back because of the location and the owner was very nice! The owner gave us directions from every possible coming into the house it’s very remote. Once we arrived at the shared driveway it got confusing because we were suppose look or follow different markers. Just run 1 color all the way to the Durango! Then all we have to do is follow the driveway the rest of the way down.

Holiday Weekend - Unwind & Relax
This cabin is stunning. The location is breathtaking. The mountains, the water, the trails...all of it was amazing. The beds were very comfortable also. We had 4 adults and 3 children with us and there was plenty of space for everyone. The cabin is well maintained and well built. We kept the fire going all weekend from wood provided by the owner. We also were able to use the 4WD on the property to get to the cabin and back to our vehicle when needed. If you want peace and quiet in an immaculate setting, this is your place!

Holiday Getaway
We very much enjoyed our time at the Peace Lodge. The house is beautifully built; It was very comfortable and the fire place kept it warm and toasty. (The owner supplied the wood for the fireplace which was a nice touch.) Speaking of, throughout our trip, the owner was extremely communicative & helpful. You do need to pay attention to the owners instructions on needing to use a 4WD or AWD vehicle (he does supply one if needed) as the home is located on the side of a mountain and the access road is steep. The creek at the bottom of the property was lovely… we would definitely consider returning in spring or summer. Overall, it was a wonderful place to stay during the holidays to rest, relax and recharge.

Unique Getaway Spot
PeaceLodge is a very unique property filled with interesting and eclectic architectural and furnishing details. The location is perfect if you are looking for a feeling of seclusion, far away from the world. The sound of the water below the property is very soothing and you can listen to it from a place of comfort on multiple decks. There is plenty of room for kids to romp and run, and your smaller dogs will enjoy the property, too! My friend and I were delighted to be able to bring our little guys along. The beds are very comfortable, the bathrooms are up-to-date with modern comforts (air tub, steam shower) and the kitchen has plenty of appliances to make you feel at home. And if you're in the mood for a fire, there is a gorgeous fireplace with wood stacked outside. I would suggest that you bring kitchen items like your favorite spices, storage bags, foil, etc. The property owner has supplied a great many items, but things run out over time, and if you have favorites, bring them along. The property owner is very communicative and friendly, making sure visitors have everything they need for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Be sure to pay attention to the recommendations for AWD/4 WD vehicles. My friend and I both drive smaller AWD vehicles and we were able to get in and out with no trouble while it was raining pretty hard. I would NOT recommend attempting the final drive into the property in anything less than AWD, but don't let that stop you from checking PeaceLodge out. The owner has a plan to assist you.

Peace Lodge of Heaven
What a fabulous property! Once I saw the photos, I had to see this home in person. Beautifully and thoughtfully built, this was the perfect place for my husband and I to host our son and son-in-law (and dog Margo) while we worked on our Meadows of Dan building site. So comfortable after two days of hard work. Evenings watching the World Series on satellite. Loved the steam shower and the jetted tub. Great privacy with each floor having a bedroom and private bath. Never stayed at a house with such a well-appointed kitchen with QUALITY cookware and every kind of pot imaginable. As an architect, I'm in awe of how Randal created such a well built and well detailed home in this remote location. Terrific craft in solid wood floors, stairs and doors and wrought iron railings on stair and main bedroom overlook of living room. Gracious decks. Generous windows. Unique style. COMFORTABLE beds (so many VRBOs miss this important factor in guest experiences)! Highly recommend this spot. Wish we'd stayed longer! Oh, and so grateful to the 4WD vehicle to ferry us and our stuff from parking area down winding road to house. Thank you, Randal!

Our group was looking for a wonderful mountain getaway with a stream. We also love the outdoors and adventure. We knew Peace Lodge would deliver the serenity that we were looking for. Randal was engaged from the initial reservation through our stay. The home is amazing and upon arrival our expectations were exceeded. There is so much character in the design, the location, and in the decor. The quality of amenities exceed expectations. It didn’t take long to begin to unwind and enjoy the solitude of the mountainside. The hikes aren’t for the timid and our 4WD’s got a workout. We didn’t want to leave. While there we also experienced Floyd General Stores Americana Afternoon, which just added to the overall hospitality. Well Done!

If only I had brought my fly rod!
This house featured the privacy and scenic beauty we were looking for! The property owner was extremely nice and helpful when we had questions or needed assistance. Situated directly upslope from a large mountain stream, my only regret was that I didn't bring a fly rod and gear to try my hand at hooking a few trout! The cottage decor and amenities were spot-on and fit right in with comfortable, yet refined Appalachian living. The cellular service was sketchy at best, but to be expected in a remote location like this. Our group enjoyed taking in some of the local small town charm and checked out a local distillery and lovely winery just off the Blue Ridge Parkway! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!!!

Great long weekend getaway!
Our teenagers/young adults had a good mix of getting out into nature and still being able to connect to WIFI for their homework. We found Ozark Trail tubes for sale in a town nearby and walked them upstream to tube back down; we had a relaxing and adventurous time together! The kitchen had what we needed for cooking several meals. The steps, trails, different levels of the property provided good exercise, the bathtub and showers were very nice. Randal was a caring host. Very quiet place with comfortable beds.
