Concert at Somerset Ampitheatre
My sister and I only stayed for one night and used one of the rooms in the house but it was the perfect place to stay for the concert. The host, Steve, was very helpful and even drove us to and from the concert! Property is situated on a beautiful serene lot, hummingbirds were abundant out on the deck, had coffee and pastries in the am prior to checkout. Great spot!

Lovely stay for a somber occasion
I chose this VRBO listing because I was coming into town for my brother's celebration of life, and I wanted to stay somewhere welcoming and comforting, such as a home as opposed to a hotel. Steve was a wonderful host, and while the property/grounds have some items he's working on, he is pretty up-front about that in the listing/description. I loved the room I stayed in, and the huge porch was a perfect place to sit out and relax each night after some long days. Steve also had cinnamon rolls and fresh fruit out every morning, which was very nice.

We didn’t spend a lot of time at the home as we were in the area for a family reunion. However, the home was very clean and Steve the owner was extremely helpful and knowledgable about the area.

We arrived at place and no one was home. No note or information telling us where our room was located. Initially couldn’t find our booking message on phone so we wandered upstairs and picked out empty room to quickly change for an evening event. When we came back, still no host but got some info from other guests. We found our booking info and found room assigned to us (because of picture sent at time of booking) and moved our things from initial room we used. The stairs were not finished, plywood but solid. Our room walls were just sheetrocked. There were some smears of paint in places, but not totally painted (if that was the intent). By our bed, the Sheetrock had a large gouge. The door and window had no trim so saw raw Sheetrock edge. At mirrored closet door had a huge crack across the panel. The closet was full of owner personal tools and such. The floor was unfinished, mostly covered with rugs and carpet pieces. The bathroom had plenty of towels and a nice vanity but again, unfinished Sheetrock walls with smears of paint in places. Our bed had a very soft mattress that I’m guessing was quite old. Sheets seemed clean. The outside of the home was like a scrap metal yard with piles of junk everywhere one looked. All in all, a very unpleasant feeling to the place. One plus is that the owner had a packaged type cinnamon biscuit, several fresh fruit options, and unlimited hot coffee ready for us in the morning. He made the effort to visit with his guests over breakfast.

Good People
I stayed for an extended period of time. The owner and his sons live on the property, but you won’t see them very much. The property is SO peaceful, quiet, and safe. They’ve been working to improve it and so there’s some renovations and things here and there, but nothing that would make you uncomfortable or disturb you. My kids were welcomed here, and the family even helped me through an epic flat tire crisis. They have literally everything you need and then some as far as kitchen, bathroom, linens etc. Overall, very nice people and easy to communicate, get in and out, etc. Thanks Steve, Corey, and Tristan. God bless you.

Very Pleasant Stay
You will drive up and wonder if you're in the right place. House is clean and Steve was great to communicate with. Lots of bedrooms to choose from. We stayed there to celebrate a 50th Bday for my sister. Headed into town to see a band and this was a great place to cook and have a home feeling vs a restaurant where you had to eat and leave. We hung out and chilled comfortably. Would NOT recommend for small kids.

Many sleeping options, clean shared kitchen and bathroom, nice porch. Owner and son live in the house - they keep a low profile. Upon arrival, a sign telling a new arrival she has arrived at the right place would be helpful.

Nice gathering spaces
There was a lot of “stuff” along the driveway coming in, but the yard and backyard view are gorgeous. There was plenty of room for our group of 6 to sleep, cook and hang out. It was different to be sharing the space with other guests, but overall a good stay.

Hideaway Houlton
When you aren't the biggest fans of city life, a rustic cabin in the woods is your preference over a hotel. This was so much more than we expected! It was perfection in the woods. We had the place to ourselves mostly & it was everything we needed to recharge. Breakfast greeted us every morning and we far enough outside of the hustling city but still close enough to be in south St Paul daily to visit our friends & family. Steve was an amazing host and very helpful if we needed anything. We will be back!

Very disappointed - and concerned
The listing was not clear at all about the owner's living IN the building, nor the notion that someone else might also be renting the place when we were there. The fact that my nephew and niece did not even feel safe based on some events that transpired forced us to leave the property after the first night when we had booked two nights. I would not rent this place again. If you are considering it, please be sure to get ALL the facts about how this owner manages his rental arrangements.

Starry, starry skies, bird watching, and comfortable rooms.
Being greeted by deer as we headed down the driveway, set us up for the welcoming, warm, super comfortable accommodations for our 3-night stay. If you are looking for modern, sleek, regimented time for an easy breakfast, don't read on. We spent our mornings and evenings on the large deck watching hummingbirds fight over the feeders, numerous (we counted over 15 species) birds at their feeders, an occasional deer peeking out of the woods to check us out and listening to coyotes in the evening's distance. We finally met Steve, the owner, on our last evening, to query him on his journey of buying, building and rebuilding this house. There are still some fix-ups to finish but nothing that takes away from the Northwoods ambiance. We had a very relaxing get away.
