"The staff was fabulous; both helpful and kind. We were unaware that caves are humid, which was our naivete. Breakfast was ample. Our cave was large and had lots of places to sit comfortably, inside and out. The only reason the stay was not 100% excellent was the humidity inside the cave despite running dehumidifiers and air conditioning. Having a sweet dog on premises was a bonus!"

"The cava is exactly as shown and described online. The view from the terrace looks directly into the Sassi. The location can’t be beat, it’s right near the old city and new City so you have a central location to see everything. The beds were comfortable and the air conditioner works great on a hot day. Our hosts were amazing. They provided us a lovely breakfast of fresh tarts, pastries, meats, yogurts, and milk/cereals. They even left us local wine to enjoy at home and suggested several tours....

Stunning hilltop location that offered privacy, 360–degree views, and easy access to Matera and a couple of small charming towns, as well as day trips to the higher-profile tourist towns like Polignano, Alberobello, etc…. "This property deserves a big thumbs up. Cave rooms were very well designed with a lot of attention to detail (lights, candles, custom shower gels). Breakfast was one of the best I had recently with a lot of local cheese and fruits instead of banal buffet items. Ricotta was simply amazing. Staff was polite and helpful. I would definitely stay again. The only recommendation I would give is that since each room is unique I would put each room and its images separately instead of room category. "

"We had the most incredible stay at Pianelle Resort. It was nothing short of magical.. Matera is a very special and unique place and Pianelle Resort made it even more extraordinary in every way -from the lovingly preserved, stylishly beautiful and thoughtfully contemporary hotel design and architecture to outstanding hotel staffs, namely Saverio, Christian, Rocco, Linda and another breakfast staff whose name slipped my mind. They are most hospitable, knowledgeable, patient, warm, thoughtful and helpful during our stay. The beautiful and thoughtfully designed Pianelle Resort and its amazing staffs makes for a destination in itself."
