Jupiter Beach is a pristine stretch of coastline near the town of the same name. It’s divided into white sand beaches and parks where outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do. Surf, fish, swim, play volleyball, or enjoy a picnic beside the water.
North of Jupiter Inlet, where the Loxahatchee River ends its journey to the Atlantic Ocean, is Blowing Rock Park. Watch the sea water crash onto the area’s striking rock formations. South of the inlet is Jupiter Beach Park. Find picnic tables, pavilions and grills for group events, as well as a children’s playground and a beach volleyball court. The beach covers over 46 acres (16 hectares) and lifeguards are on patrol. You are allowed to surf and fish outside of the patrolled swimming areas, from the rock mounds and the jetty. There is also plenty of parking, restrooms and outdoor showers.
The adjoining DuBois Park has lovely views over Jupiter Inlet, with a calm, shallow lagoon ideal for families with small children. The more adventurous visitor can snorkel around the artificial reef, or swim in the patrolled beach. Weekends are busy here so arrive early if you want to cook lunch on one of the grills in the picnic area.
Visit the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum on the north side of the inlet. An admission ticket for this attraction includes a 45-minute tour of the lighthouse, which is the only way you are allowed inside this landmark built in 1860. Climb the 105 steps to the top for a stunning view across the inlet. History buffs will enjoy the exhibits inside and around the museum. Learn about the importance of the area, once a traditional meeting place for Native American tribes and, during World War II, home to Station J, a secret operation to intercept messages from enemy submarines.
All the non-guarded areas of Jupiter Beach are dog friendly, but dogs must be kept on a leash. Relaxed bars and restaurants line the water along Loxahatchee River just west of DuBois Park. Jupiter Beach is about a one-hour drive north of Fort Lauderdale. There are a number of free parking lots.
