Kabira Park

Kabira Park which includes heritage architecture and a garden

Inspect the various shrines and statues that decorate this charming park with a roofed observation deck overlooking a stunning beach.

Kabira Park is an elegant and tranquil park with meandering pathways, a viewing platform and intriguing sculptures. Palm trees and other exotic vegetation flank the paths in this scenic area. Lay down a blanket for a picnic on the grass with your family or friends.

Enjoy the serenity of this quiet park, which is sheltered by lush, green vegetation on all sides. Stroll along the boulevard that winds around the coast overlooking the bay. Examine the various sculptures with Japanese symbols scattered around the park.

The grounds contain stone benches, where you can sit to read a book or watch people pass by. Ascend the outdoor steps past the majestic lanterns to reach a shrine surrounded by trees. Sunbathe on the lawn on a hot day to enhance your tan.

Make your way to the observation deck on the pavilion to enjoy the panoramic views of Kabira Bay Beach. The terrace has an elegant wooden roof and brick columns. Capture photos of the sun setting over the clear, blue-green waters and white, powdery sand. Go on a glass-bottomed boat ride and admire the range of colorful fish here.

At the back of the beach are several cafés and restaurants serving traditional noodle and stir-fry dishes. Purchase various souvenirs and practical items from the shops. Walk to the adjacent village of Kabira, which was part of an important anthropological study in the 1950s.

There is a fee for a ride in the glass-bottomed boats. The park and beach remain open to the public for strolling and picnicking at all times.

Kabira Park is next to its namesake beach on the northern coast of the island of Ishigaki. Leave your car in the village’s parking lot and walk to this park. Consider visits to the other landmarks in the area, including Sukuji Beach, Yonehara and Uganzaki.

Very touristy. The boat trip is 30 minutes and a bit of a conveyor belt. It’s a nice spot but not quite as idyllic as pictures make out.
