Home in Kona, Hawaii

Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. Who doesn’t dream of coming to Hawaii and staying in an original built Hawaiian home set on an acre surrounded by coffee, mango, avocado, papaya, passion fruit trees and much more! Surrounded by Kona coffee farms and gorgeous Hawaiian landscape, Hale Ka Nui is very peaceful and tranquil. Enjoy your morning coffee listening to the birds in the garden and evenings watching the most spectacular sunsets from the lanai and front living room.

Neighborhood description:
Tucked away at approximately 1,500 ft in elevation, just outside of the little village and art enclave in the heart of Kona coffee country, sits Hale Ka Nui; our quiet and tranquil 3 bedroom Artist Coffee Cottage. Visit our charming town of Holualoa and discover local artwork including paintings, ceramic sculptures and handcrafted woodwork. To experience the best of both worlds, visit during the annual Holualoa Village Coffee & Art Stroll in November. Taste exotic Kona coffee blends while you shop for handcrafted goods and meet local farmers and artists. Then make room in your suitcase to take home a bag of Holualoa’s best beans for your trip home. Be sure to check out First Fridays (the first Friday of each month), for a fun evening of live music, shopping and food trucks. A Brief History of Holualoa The origins of Holualoa as an established center begins with the fertile soil and high amounts of rainfall that made agriculture a valuable industry in the area. Coffee, something that Holualoa is well-known for, was first planted in 1828 and remained one of the town’s industries. Beyond coffee, fields of sugar cane were also planted in Holualoa. Many historic buildings from this point in time still exist today as monuments, with interpretive signs to help you learn more about the town’s rich history. The town of Holualoa is often referred to as an artist’s enclave, which means that there is no shortage of art and culture to experience in this small yet mighty town. Holualoa is also a vibrant town with constant celebrations and lively community events for whatever occasion you can imagine. One event that showcases Holualoa’s culture is the First Friday After Dark, which includes art, music, food, and cultural activities to celebrate on a regular basis. This occurs on the first Friday evening of every month. And of course, the town’s emphasis on coffee can’t be ignored; the Coffee and Art Stroll is the town’s annual celebration of Kona coffee and local art in the fall. The galleries along Mamalahoa Highway, which is the main road through town, contains some fine art, including handmade woodwork and jewelry, sculptures and posters. Standouts include Dovetail Gallery, Studio 7 Fine Arts, and Glyph Art Gallery. The famous and unique Holualoa Ukulele Gallery has some stunning examples of Hawaii’s four-stringed instrument which is created by great ukulele makers. The visitors can play a few bars, chat with the owner and maybe even participate in a ukulele – building workshop. Beyond the town center are many small farms, nestled on the slopes of Mount Hualalai. Many of these small farms would be happy to have you and your family along for a tour to explore the process of farming on the Big Island or how coffee is farmed and roasted, a real farm-to-cup experience! Holualoa’s climate is generally thought to be quite comfortable and slightly lower than average in terms of precipitation and the most pleasant in terms of heat and humidity from February to March. The area is hottest July through October. Fun fact: Holualoa got its name from the ancient Hawaiian practice of sledding the long (loa) mountain slopes with wooden sleds (holua).

Unique place in the Nature
Aloha, This is a beautiful place among a serene setting. You will enjoy the mornings and evenings equally. The weather was perfect and although new for us, I loved the frogs noise at night. Short dive to other places on the Island. Had a great time!! Host is very helpful and always on top of things. She gave me many suggestions for things to do and places to visit. Quick and helpful communication. My Young ones and Teens and Us Adults, everyone had a great time and created beautiful memories. Mahalo!

Beautiful home located in rural area close to town. The location was wonderful, I loved listening to the “jungle” noises at night! Home was very clean & beautifully decorated. Home also had access to laundry and beach equipment. The property/grounds are gorgeous & had a mango, banana, and avocado tree; we ate mangos every morning, they were the best! Highly recommend staying here

Relaxing Get-away
We had a fabulous time staying at this location. Everything went smoothly. Communications were superb! The place is well lit, clean, spacious, and welcoming. We made use of the kitchen and had many meals at the house. We sat and enjoyed the views from balcony and front yard. We picked up coffee next door at the coffee farm. It's a 10-minute drive to shopping. We're so happy to have found this place. Would definitely come back.

One of the best
We’ve stayed in countless rentals on and off the island and I would easily rank this as one of the best in its class. The property was clean and thoughtfully appointed with all the amenities you need for a relaxing island escape. Book this home in the hills if you’re looking for something relaxing, away from the crowds and you don’t mind a little driving. After a day of activities you can retire to evening rain, birds and whatever quiet past times suit you. We enjoyed cooking our own meals, the outdoor shower, nice division of space for each person, the covered deck and cozy beds, couch and linens.

Spring Break
We had a wonderful time, and the house was great! We all loved the outdoor shower, which was stocked with all the products you need to freshen up after a long day at the beach. There were snorkels and masks for the beach, as well as boogie boards for the kids.

Relaxing Stay
Everything was nice. Older home with a separate basement housing. Three beds with only one bathroom was a little hassle. We could here the residents in basement apartment as I think they were going to airport at 4am. Other than that a great stay.

Charming Gem
Upon arriving we were greeted by a gecko. I'm not sure how much they pay him, but he was a wonderful host! When we first entered we were greeted by gentle music, fans running with windows open. This house is extremely comfortable, well decorated, and easy to reach from Kona. After spending the day along the coast, either kayaking, or exploring Kaloko State Park, we were all eager to head back "home" where the temperature was a good 7+ degrees less than the coast. We would open up the house to let the ocean breeze through. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and usable. We used the deck and table more than the dining table as it was extremely comfortable outside. Two things to consider: there is only one bathroom, which connects to two bedrooms. This means that the third bedroom has to navigate which bedroom to invade when planning a trip to the restroom. Not a big deal at all. Also there is no dishwasher - we instituted the following policy ‘use a dish, wash a dish.’ Overall the house house is amazing, comfortable, private, and family friendly. The only real issue we had, was that we couldn’t stay longer.
