"Overall enjoyed our stay but there were a few small things that could have made our stay more fulfilling. The entire place is made kids friendly which was really touching and is a welcome attitude given we are a family with 2 kids. The breakfast spread was quite good but had very limited vegetarian options - again the kids section there was really awesome! Rooms were quite clean but a bit smaller than anticipated, the toilet exhaust was a bit low or not working which made it a bit awkward....

"This was our second stay at Asaya and we booked a suite with in-room hot springs bath. We enjoyed both public and private baths. There is nothing much to do close by, so we chose to stay back in the hotel, enjoying onsen, relaxation and their award winning breakfast and dinner buffets! Fabulous staff and service, as expected of Japanese hospitality! "

"This is a grand dame of a ryokan hotel next to a beautiful river with a scenic view of a suspension bridge and cliff. The hotel is very worn and in real need of a renovation, but the staff keep it as clean as they can. This is not a glamorous hotel and is definitely past its prime. However, that's not why you come here. You come to this ryokan for the hospitality, the well-maintained spa, the family activities, which are numerous (

"The area around the property was really beautiful. Several things to do, we went to the monkey show which was interesting and to Edo Wonderland, which was very cool. However, this hotel is very old and needs to be updated. The outdoor bath was nice."

"Quiet cultural experience. We were the only foreigners we could see. Beautiful property, view and area. Not a lot of places to visit but enough for 1-2 days. FYI This property is not at the Nikko city but the Nikko area. Large buffet and free drinks. Beds on the floor and daughter was really on the floor but all part of experience. If you want a quiet experience away from the city then this is great- even better with small children as has a
