Kelly’s Beach is one of Bundaberg’s favored seaside destinations. With its extensive shoreline, tidal pools and low-rolling waves, Kelly’s Beach is a great spot for a family beach trip or a seaside getaway. Wander along the 0.4-mile (600-meter) stretch of sandy shore and admire the pristine ocean views. Play in the waves or enjoy a sheltered swimming experience in the large tidal pool.
Wander down to the wide beach from the tree-lined esplanade and feel the golden sands beneath your toes. At the center of the beach, you’ll find a shallow lagoon that feeds into the ocean via a narrow creek. Stroll north to find the large tidal pool, which is ideal for younger children. Relax in the warm, protected waters as you wade around the pool.
Jump into the ocean waters to play in the low beach breaks. If the conditions are right, this beach gets occasional surf swells. Lifeguards patrol Kelly’s Beach daily and red-and-yellow flags mark the safe swimming areas.
South of the creek, you’ll find rocky platforms framing the southern stretch of Kelly’s Beach. These low basalt promontories and boulders are fun to explore with the kids. Hop around the rocks and check the tidal pools for marine critters. At high tide, you might see local anglers fishing from the rock flats.
Kelly’s Beach is located in the heart of the seaside suburb of Bargara. It is a 20-minute drive from central Bundaberg and is easy to reach via public transit. The best time to visit the beach is during mid-to-high tide. Kelly’s Beach has public restrooms and drinking water available on site.
Book a room in a resort villa on the waterfront to have Kelly’s Beach on your doorstep. Parking is free at the beach’s parking lot and on the adjoining streets. Behind the beach, you’ll find the Bargara Golf Club.
