Koosh Cabins - Capitol Reef NP, Bryce Canyon NP, & Fish Lake

Our Utah family retreat is an ideal base camp for your Southern Utah Adventure (from 2 to 30 people!). It's the perfect location for youth conference, girls camp, scout camp, youth camp, family reunion, trip with friends, etc. It is the gateway to Bryce Canyon National Park and Capitol Reef National Park. Our property is on the edge of the town of Koosharem right on the Paiute ATV trail and close to National and State Parks. We are 3 hours from Salt Lake City and 4 1/2 hours from Las Vegas. We have beds for 14 people and sleeping for another 4 people (hide-a-bed, futon, thick ground mats). You may sleep more with your own bedding on the floor, and in one of our two campsites, or your own RV (we have power, water and RV dump). The rate is for up to 15 people. The charge is $9/person per night beyond 15 (children ages 3 and under are not required to pay).

The property consists of the following:

1. The Cabin (600 sq. ft.) features a wood burning stove and full kitchen. A one-bedroom (queen bed) that boasts a barn wood frame bed. There is also a hide-a-bed couch in the living room for the kids. Bedding provided. There is a bathroom and shower in this unit. There is not a television nor internet access. We are rural and isolated. These units do not have AC. It is rarely needed at 7000' elevation. There are basic pots and pans to cook your meals or use the grill in the outdoor pavilion. Kick back and relax on the outdoor deck. Sleeps 4.

2. The Rec House (625 sq. ft.) features wood paneling walls and ceiling. This is a one bedroom (queen bed) with a futon for one and two throw-down, tri-fold mats (with bedding) for the kids in the living room. Mats and bedding provided. The Bunk House has its own bathroom. There is a small kitchenette (sink, 2 burners, small fridge) in this unit, but also has an outdoor kitchen area with grill and picnic tables in the pavilion. There are basic pots and pans to cook with in the Bunk House. These units do not have AC, but it is rarely needed at 7000' elevation. There is not internet service. There is not cable, but there is a TV and DVD player for your movies. This unit sleeps 2 adults and 3 children.

3. The Bunk Room, this unique combination of the old barn wood and new barn wood (Blue Pine) consists of two sets of bunk beds (for 4 people) and a queen bed (for 2). Bedding provided. The queen bed area has a privacy curtain as do each bunk bed. There is a 3rd bathroom (a separate free-standing building just outside The Shop Bedroom) that serves the guests in this unit. There is not a kitchen nor living area. There is no AC, nor internet. There are power outlets to charge your cell phones. Sleeps 6.

4. Vintage Travel Trailer (sleeps 2). There is not a bathroom in this small trailer. There is a 3rd bathroom (a separate free-standing building just outside The Vintage Trailer) - The Outhouse. There is not a functioning kitchen, nor supplies in this unit to cook. Please use the grill in the outdoor pavilion. Sleeps 2

. There is a one time cleaning fee of $175.

Summary: We have beds and linen for 18 (2 of which are on a hide-a-bed, 1 on a futon, and 2 on tri-fold, throw down mats in the Bunk House living room). Then, you can sleep more either in the tent area, one RV spot or on the floors in the cabins.

The property is close to:

Capitol Reef National Park - 40 miles

Bryce Canyon National Park - 70 miles

Fish Lake (Fishlake National Forest) - 15 miles

Otter Creek State Park - 20 miles

Monroe Mountain (we're right at the base)

Paiute ATV trail - we're right next to it

Enjoy the fire pit, pavilion and outdoor kitchen for your group event. There are a couple of burger places in town and more restaurant choices in Richfield, Utah (30 miles). There is a very small store in Koosharem for incidentals. We are rural and isolated. However, because we are close to the Paiute ATV trail you will see and hear four wheelers and side by sides. Reservation/security deposit is refundable pending no damage. There is intermittent cell phone service. As you walk around a bit you can find the best place to make your cell phone call.

Family fun fest
My whole huge family had room here. It was so much fun and there was so much to do. Everything was well stocked. We were all comfortable. A little sad that the teepee wasn't up, but the covered wagon was cool! Overall an amazing experience.

Rustic, but cozy
We stayed with a youth group (total 18 people) at the I rustic, but cozy location. I don't love the strange little town called Koosharem, but this place was a good fit for how large our group was and our budget restraints. If it was in the budget, I would have stayed in a cabin by the lake--but I would rather this place with a kitchen and beds than tents near the lake. We hiked Capitol Reef and fished Fish Lake. It was nice to cook some nights on the grill/fire and some nights in the kitchen. The outdoor bathrooms were surprisingly nice, the kitchen was well equipped, and the bunkhouse was quaint.

Annular Eclipse at the Koosh Cabins
All sixteen of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Koosh Cabins. The beds were comfortable, the outdoor facilities great. We made a lot of s’mores over campfires. We played horseshoes. We lounged on the deck. We enjoyed family gossip in the two living rooms. We never had time for either games or movies. Here is a direct quote from one of us: “One of my top five perfect trips! People, food, weather, eclipse, Capital Reef…all top notch.”

Great Base Camp
We needed a base camp in town for our young men's retreat and Koosh Cabin was perfect for us. After hiking and fishing all day, the boys really appreciated a comfortable place to relax, watch movies, grill steaks, roast s'mores, and real beds to sleep in. The cabins were very clean, and the managers were great. We really enjoyed our stay and would stay again!

Great Group Getaway!
Natalie, the host, was very responsive. We arrived after dark and were able to easily navigate the property. It was perfect to have various buildings and the camper to sleep in. I love that even the covered wagon had a queen bed in it! The outdoor space was great! We were happy with having little to no internet access, no arguments about unplugging. Neighborhood was quiet. I recommend this space for groups.

Loved our time at Koosh cabins. It's a remote location that allows you to disconnect, near to some beautiful Utah sites within an hours drive. Had everything we needed on site, lots of places to sleep, clean, fun, perfect weather and great outdoor amenities. You'll love your stay. My family had such a great time. Thanks for hosting us. We definitely built some memories.

A neat place to hang with the extended family. Grandson enjoyed the bunkhouse and we split the cooking and dining between the cabin and rec house. Kids had fun playing in the wagon (a little cool at night for sleeping in November) and throwing horseshoes.
