Staff are super helpful and friendly. Helped us in many ways eg. Directions, shipping of luggage, book taxi and etc.
Rooms are very clean.
Everything is sufficient except there’s no telephone in the bedrooms.
Location: Quiet neighbourhood, no traffic noise. We love it.
Thank you to: Anne, Sylvia, young girl (Sri Lankan) and a Japanese young man.
Clean rooms, bigger space compared to other japan hotels. Quite area, close to the old kyoto neighborhoud. Staff were very nice and helpful. Landry machine was quite confusing. And the hotel still didn't have luggage transfer system at the time, so if thats an issue, check with them before. But overall had a great stay.
I had such a great time in the hotel. I would stay here again. The staff were very friendly. The area is conveniently located near a lot of shopping and restaurants.
The welcome we had at this manga-themed hotel could not have been warmer and the staff throughout were friendly and helpful. The real draw is the shared lounge/cafe area where there are games consoles and thousands of manga volumes - you could stay for months and not see them all.
Also well-located just minutes from the rail/underground stations and bus routes.
There is also a tiny garden leading to a tea house with an exhibition of Utagawa Hiroshige prints.
Be aware though that the twin-bedded room is TINY, even by Japanese standards. In one way it’s a masterful piece of design that they’ve fitted so much into such a small space. But by our third night we were quite tired of stepping over luggage and bumping into things.
Don’t let me out you off - other rooms might have more space and there’s a lot that is really good about this boutique hotel. It’s just that, if I stayed again, I’d try a different room.
This is a super fun, artsy and unique hotel in a quiet residential neighborhood in Kyoto. We stayed in the “game otaku” room with a cozy swing chair. The room was quite large by Japanese standards (queen size bed & a loft with room for 3 futons). It was very comfortable for our family of 3 (parents & teenager). We enjoyed interacting with the friendly & helpful international staff. The lobby has a huge Manga library (including some in English), and some fun retro game systems. The location is just a few blocks from the subway & several bus lines, which made it easy to go anywhere in Kyoto. Overall, this hotel was a fantastic home base for our visit to Kyoto. We would definitely stay here again if the opportunity ever arose.
We really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel is modern, clean, and has some unique touches that make it stand out. One of the highlights is the downstairs area with manga books and retro gaming consoles. It’s a fun space to relax, whether you’re starting your day with a coffee and a quick game or winding down before bed. It gives the whole place a relaxed, nostalgic feel.
The room was basic but comfortable and had everything we needed. Like most hotels in Japan, the space is compact, so staying organized helps. Everything was clean and functional.
The location is excellent, especially if you want to explore Gion and nearby areas. It’s only a short walk to the traditional streets, as well as cafes with great coffee and pastries. For dinner, there are a few local spots nearby, but for more variety, it’s about a 10–15 minute walk to Pontocho Alley. That’s ideal since you can enjoy the lively restaurant area and then return to the quiet neighborhood. The hotel is also close to the river, perfect for an evening stroll or a drink after dinner.
The staff were friendly and welcoming, always ready to offer tips and advice. There are also washing and drying facilities, which were very useful during our longer trip. Overall, a fun, comfortable stay in a great location. Highly recommended!
The hotel is in a great location in Kyoto. The staff were great - friendly and very helpful. The rooms and whole hotel were very clean and had plenty of amenities in good working order - laundry, umbrellas, drinks station (tea is free but a shame you have to pay for coffee), microwave + toaster. The hotel currently lacks a luggage forwarding service which would have been handy, and doesn't serve breakfast.
The downside was that the room was a lot smaller than it appeared on the pictures. I am 6"2 and there were parts of the room I couldn't stand up in due to the sloping roof. I had to hunch forward to brush my teeth due to the location and it meant none of the mirrors were any use for getting ready. Both me and my wife (who is not as tall) hit our heads at some point.
Despite this, overall we enjoyed our stay and despite lacking a few things, the staff are great and the hotel seemed well-run.
Room could have been cleaner because I found a few Long black hairs which are not mine. Staff is lovely and attentive. Washer / dryer works great and is very easy. Property is close to lots of busses and trains. Close to walking to Kyoto downtown too.

This property was close to the train stations which was nice. However, if you are like my husband and I and run hot, this is not the place. The whole air conditioning unit was connected, so we were not able to adjust the temperature. The heater was on and we are from Wisconsin, so did not need the heater. Thank goodness we came in November, and it was colder at night so we kept the window open which helped.
We were also told by staff that we could set up luggage transport at the hotel as long as it was after 8am. We did laundry and brought our luggage to the front desk later in the afternoon. Staff had changed and they told us they actually don’t do luggage transport, that we had to take it to a near by convenience store which was 5 mins walking away. We took it and the lady working there was not accepting luggage’s for transfer. We had to walk back to the hotel, where they mentioned this had never happened before and told us to take it to another convenience store 7 minutes away walking. Thankfully they did accept it, but they had already completed the pick up for the day. So instead of receiving our luggage the next day at our next hotel, we will get it in two days.
