My partner and I loved staying here. The staff are wonderful and accommodating. The breakfasts were lovely and it was incredibly convenient for us to get around. The room was cozy and comfortable and the bathroom was clean. Not to mention, the overall atmosphere of the hotel was inviting and warm. Would love to stay here again next time we’re in Kyoto!

This place looks way more like a hostel that a hotel. Lobby full of flyers, cero facilities and when I did the check-in, they told me: “we don’t clean your room everyday for economic reason and we don’t chance the towels”. Of course I arrived to the room and it was smelly… imagine, hotel full of people walking around the city everyday, and they don’t clean the rooms, you tell me. My rate was about $400/night for a hostel, worts quality/price ratio of my 25 years history traveling. Changed to another hotel the next day, same rate amazing hotel, great room and full amenities. Plus Gion is no the area to stay, noise and to downtown, left the river is better, still centric, more chill, better area and better hotels

Great property in the middle of a very busy area. PERFECT location. Rooms are super tiny. Do not choose the room with king size bed, there is no space to walk around. Instead get the double bed room. The Onsen is ok. There are washers&dryers to wash your clothes.

Three and a half stars. Small hotel in the middle of everything in Gion neighborhood. Near Nishiki market and countless restaurants. But had to switch rooms since the first room we received was the width of the bed (this isn't an exaggeration) and we had no room for our luggage. Average breakfast for Japanese standards. If you're young and don't expect much in the way of service, excellent place to stay. Onsen was a nice touch but being in the basement a bit dark and claustrophobic.

Hotel Granbell was a perfect stay for our quick trip through Kyoto. The location was quiet though walkable to all the nearby attractions. The onsen was a perfect way to wind down in the evening and we appreciate the long hours of access.

Don’t let the simple entrance to the Grandbell Hotel fool you! Once you are inside, the grand foyer is revealed and your glorious adventure begins. The rooms are perfect, the breakfast is sublime, the location is superb, close to everything. Go out of your way to get to this property. We will come back to the beautiful city of Kyoto and the magnificent Grandbell Hotel.

We loved this hotel! The staff were very kind and helpful, nice amenities available. Amazing location, we walked most of the time! We opted to use a very close by 24-hour laundromat for laundry that had multiple large high efficiency machines (less than 5 minute walk). Would definitely recommend staying here.

Great Place, Great Location
Perfect choice for a place to stay in the heart of Gion close to everything. The staff were excellent and responsive, the lounge was cool. The onsen was nice.
