"This property is NOT a hostel but more like a motor inn. My husband and I made our booking online in a hurry since we were driving and had to stay the night somewhere in Tarifa. Unfortunately the usual front desk staff at Hostal El Levante were on holidays at the time but Rocio and Diego, the owners, were so wonderful and made sure everything was set up to make our check in very easy. "Horrible hotel! Yes, it’s close to the ferry terminal, but it has long since had its heyday. We arrived to an overpowering smell of smoke. Our room was filthy upon checkin. Once that was settled we tried to get comfy and nap. We turned the a/c on and it blew in recycled smoke filled air. We left and went to the Marriott. I spent the next 4 days extremely sick from what amounts to smoke inhalation. There were roaches on the stairs as well. Hotel would not refund and apparently hotels.com doesn’t...

"Family owned and run which shows in the service they provide. This is a very green property but doesn't sacrifice the amenities. The hottest and best water pressure of anywhere I've stayed in Spain. Individual a/c and heat in every room. The communal kitchen is well stocked and plenty of space in the refrigerator. Very secure also. Next time I'm in the area I won't bother to price shop lodging, I'll book at Lisboa. Thank you"
