Hike along natural trails, relax by a placid pond, enjoy scenic picnics and camp beneath the stars at this forest-clad park located on the outskirts of Cobán.

Enjoy family-friendly activities amid picturesque natural scenery at Las Victorias National Park. This 203 acre (82 hectare) park is a great place to spend a day hiking, picnicking and camping. Las Victorias National Park started life as a finca (rural farmstead) owned by a Belgian coffee grower. It opened to the public and became a national park in 1980.

Within the park you’ll find miles of trails, which weave through forests of towering pine and liquidambar trees. Watch hawks fly overhead and listen to the sweet song of the great-tailed grackle. Watch for armadillos, bobcats, rabbits and squirrels. Go to the large pond, sit at the water’s edge and gaze across the glistening water.

Children visiting the park will enjoy playing on the climbing frames, slides and swings of the adventure playground. Made with wood, its aesthetic blends effortlessly with the park’s natural setting. Bring your own food and make use of the designated picnic areas. Barbecues are also available for public use.

If you relish in outdoor environments then consider camping overnight in the park. There’s a small fee and you’ll need to arrive with your own equipment. Wake up to the sound of nature and enjoy stargazing opportunities at night.

Las Victorias National Park is open daily and there’s an admission fee. Ask for information about the trails and camping grounds at the park’s main entrance.

The park is just a 5-minute drive from Cobán’s city center and easily accessible via affordable taxis. You can even walk here in about 30 minutes, although be aware that some streets don’t have sidewalks. Attractions close to the park include Capilla El Calvario, a pretty church that has a terrace with sweeping city views. Sports fans might want to watch a soccer match at Estadio Verapaz.
