Legian Beach

Panoramic views, perfect waves, stunning sunsets and nightlife await you at this hotspot for surfers and other vacationers in Bali.

Pull up a beach chair or grab your surfboard ride the waves at Bali’s idyllic Legian Beach.

The beach is 1.8 miles (3 kilometers) long and has soft white sand. While this is a very popular beach for sunbathing and socializing, it is far enough away from neighboring Kuta to feel a little less crowded.

With strong and powerful waves, long swells, a soft sandy bottom, consistent waves that break both left and right and cheap board rental, Legian Beach is a real hot spot for surfing. If you have always wanted to learn how to surf, this is a great place to take lessons too because there is a local surf school. If you aren’t into surfing, just relax on the beach to sunbathe or dive in for a swim.

Legian Beach is one of those relaxed places where lounging all day is perfectly satisfying, but if you feel like getting active, walk to Kuta Beach in the south or Seminyak beach in the north. When exploring the beachfront, you’ll see the high-end resorts and hotels that line the beach. Sit down for a cocktail in a beachside café or have a bite to eat in one of the restaurants.

Come to Legian Beach in the late afternoon to watch the sunset. Enjoy a Bintang, a local beer, with, some Indonesian peanuts and kick back and relax. After dark, the beach comes alive with music, beach volley and football.

As the waterfront of Legian Village in the South Kuta District, Legian Beach is only a 20-minute taxi ride from Ngurah Rai International Airport. If you are staying in or near Kuta or Seminyak, it is best to walk to this beach because local traffic can be hectic. If you did bring a motorbike, find parking along the beachfront. There are lounge chairs and sun umbrellas available and the beachfront of Legian has showers and other public facilities.

The best time of year for surfing is during the dry season, from May to October, when the wind blows east to west.
