A Wonderful Experience
We (myself, spouse, and children 18 and 14 years old) spent 5 nights here in June 2024. It was a wonderful experience. Marta and her family made us feel at home and the location of the house was a peaceful respite to kick off our 20-day vacation. We cooked all 5 nights and found the kitchen to be very well equipped. While the house is remote, several supermarkets are within a 20 minute drive. It was particularly interesting to learn about and eat/drink the chorizo, cheese, and cider they produced. Big thanks to Marta and family for helping to make our vacation memorable. I highly recommend!

Count the ways…
Hmmm…let me count the ways we loved staying here…having the honor of sharing their first Cider pour of the season…talking to their sheep and cows as we walked around the farm, watching their smart as a whip pup (Kira?) work, getting our dog fix with lots of pup petting, sitting in front of the fire as we listened to the rain…getting glimpses of their inspiring family enjoy life…and on and on to probably INFINITY…Marta, John and the entire family made our stay an “endorphin high”….ps Marta provided so many tips for places to eat and visit..like having a travel guide!!

Lovely stay in Asturias
This is our third stay at this farmhouse in Asturias - it is truly an amazing, special place. Beautiful and peaceful scenery, comfortable well-equipped house, and the nicest hosts. Marta, Juan, and family have been so welcoming and kind. We are already looking forward to when we might be able visit again!

Perfect Spot
This property was amazing! Conveniently located between the Pico de Europa's and the Cantabria Sea; the house was perfect with beautiful views from every window of the house. The farm setting was ideal for sitting outside enjoying coffee in the mornings, to hiking up the mountain from the road right outside the door. The family was super nice and welcoming. We would highly recommend and hope to return.

Impresionante
Es difícil no sentirse pequeño ante la inmensidad del paisaje. Bajando la cuesta de la casa parece que estás viendo una película de IMAX pero la pantalla es de más de un kilómetro en cada direccion. Un color verde intenso. El tiempo es cambiante y no te puedes fiar. Puede haber lloviznas en la montaña y sol en la playa. Las playas son increíbles. Arena fina, grandes montañas rocosas alrededor tuya. Marta y Juan son unas personas muy lindas y cercanas y dispuestas a compartir lo bonito que es esta parte de Espana. Siempre preguntando si teníamos todo lo necesario. Nuestros hijos se enamoraron de “Horchata” el gato que les seguía a todos los sitios y que era mas perro que gato. Los Lagos de Covadonga son espectaculares pero hay que madrugar y estar allí antes de las 8. Muchas gracias Marta y Juan. Ya sabéis donde estamos.

Wonderful cottage and location for Picos de Europa visit!
We (2 couples) had a fantastic time at La Portiella Del Cuera! The cottage and surroundings are every bit as beautiful as the online photos. Both Marta and Juan were very helpful and thoughtful during our stay. Marta met us in town to lead us to the property, spent time showing us maps of great hikes, and generally made sure we had what we needed. Juan enthusiastically showed us where and how he makes cider each year. Of course we got him to show us how to pour it properly ! The cottage was comfortable and clean. We usually cook our own evening meals and the kitchen was well-equipped for this. The closest town for groceries was Posada, about 15 minutes drive away. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone wanting to visit the Picos de Europa! Thank you Marta and Juan.

Comfortable house with gorgeous views
Thanks for having us at your very comfortable house. It was a great spot for our family vacation, having the option to cook at home or travel to nearby towns. We made day trips to visit Llanes (30 min), Gijon and Ribadesella, all beautiful. The house was also great for little kids because there’s so many animals nearby to see- one morning we woke up to cow bells as a herd wandered into the yard. Magical :) our son also loved the friendly cat. There’s a small side yard with picnic table which we could’ve made more use of. Thanks for the great stay!! Tip- arrive in daylight with plenty of time just in case you get lost (we didn’t- for longer than 5 min)

Relaxation in Asturias
A perfect respite after 14 days on the Camino. Tucked away in the hills of Asturias we found Marta and Juan’s farm stay to be quiet and a place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Northern Spain. The location was also ideal for daily excursions to Llanes, Columbres, a number of nearby beaches and Conga Donga. Delighted to have been on your farm and visit your beautiful country.

Traditional Europe with just the right touch of modern convenience
We had a wonderful stay in Asturias, a little hard to find but made the experience more special - that you found a gem in the rough. Marta, Juan and family are gratuitous hosts who love their home and are eager to share. We could experience modern sustainable agriculture, tasting his cider and chorizo, or hike through fairy tale forests or wild coastal beaches. It was a perfect addition to our adult family’s trip through Spain’s major cities. Walk a few kilometers amoung cow bells and goats to the best steak dinner we’ve ever had. Best to be prepared with sturdy shoes and practical outdoor clothes, to enjoy the area fully. The weather changes quickly, but adds to the drama. It is one of those places you don’t want to recommend because tourism would spoil it. Hopefully the narrow winding roads and farmyard sounds and smells will keep the crowds away. Perfect location, wonderful hosts.
We spent 10 nights at La Portiella with our two young children and some grandparents. Spectacular scenery and well-situated for exploring the Picos de Europa or any of the coastal towns, we found beautiful beaches and great walks very near by. The house is beautiful and well-equipped. Our hosts were wonderful, full of warmth and knowledge about the area, and keen to show us their way of life. Thank you for the chorizo, honey, eggs and cider. Our daughter especially enjoyed helping with the animals (horses, pigs, chickens, rabbits) and loved spending time with Juan and family. Very special thanks for helping us when our car broke down, we would have been lost without the help of Marta, Juan and their sons in communicating with the garage. Juan even drove us to pick up the car and explained everything to us. Overall a truly unforgettable holiday, and we are looking forward to staying with them again.

a little piece of paradise!
Our family of four loved our fortnight staying here. The location is superb and the views from every window are breathtaking, changing daily. Our girls (4 and 8) liked helping on the farm, feeding the pigs and checking on the bunnies and chickens. The accommodation is very clean and simply furnished and comfortable. There are walks which start from the farm, you can walk to a local bar, through the woods or up to the crest of the hill. The farm is well situated for exploring. In 40minutes you can be in the foothills of the picos, we liked the lakes at covadonga and the funicular at bulnes. In the other direction there are beautiful beaches, our favourites were at cueva del mer and poo, both within 30 minutes. Further, within an hour, you can be at comillas. An ideal situation. Marta and juan were friendly and helpful, sharing advice on where to explore as well as cider and farm grown produce. We left feeling relaxed, refreshed and rejuvinated . . . . .and planning our return stay!

Stunning location
Total tranquility but only 15 minutes from the little town of Posada and half an hour to many beautiful coastal beaches. . Marta and Juan have an idyllic home in the mountains living the good life on their self sufficient organic farm. Juan's enthusiasm and philosophy for the way he chooses to live his life is admirable. We loved it. Eating Juan's amazing chorizo and drinking the famous Asturian sidre to the sound of cow bells was.a joy. this is a place I would love to return to. Truly wonderful.

Just Right
We spent a wonderful Christmas and New Year at Marta's farm. Thank you for the Christmas tree. It was very interesting to find out about the ecological philosophy on which the farm was based. Everything that was said made so much sense. The animals were in beautiful condition and the local produce, in particular the meat, was delicious. My son-in-law, a chef, was very impressed by the quality. I particularly enjoyed using the fresh vegetables from their kitchen garden which they allowed us to use. The house was very comfortable and provided everything necessary for the stay. It was very clean and well taken care of. It provided a very necessary break for us city folk to unwind and detox. There were some really interesting visits and Marta told us about some speciality restaurants in the region which served up the delicious Asturias products cooked to perfection. We hope to repeat our experience next Christmas season. Thanks to Marta and her lovely family for sharing their lives with us.

EXCELLENT FRIENDLY HOSTS AND A TRUELY STUNNING LOCATION
Marta and Juan are extremely friendly, helpful and warm people. The rural house that we stayed in is very comfortable, cosy and well designed. We have not slept so well in many years. The surrounding area is breathtakingly beautiful, rustic and very peaceful. The house is located on a charming working farm and Juan and Marta are always happy to show people around. I had a fantastic hike in the mountains with Juan, which was a truely unforgettable day. He is very knowledgable with regards to local Asturian history, culture and traditions. The house is ideally located, with lovely beaches, good restaurants, interesting quaint Asturian villages and the Picola De Europa being in close proximity. Marta and Juan have extraordinary children and it was a real pleasure to see them helping their parents out around the farm. It is one of the best holidays we have ever had and we will without doubt be going back to stay with Marta and Juan in the hopefully not too distant future. La Portilla is the perfect destination for combining activities like hiking canoing and relaxing at the beach. At our time at Portilla every body of our 5 person familiy aged between 3 and 54 years, found somthing fitting to its interests. The children enjoy the farm with the animals and the sea and my wife and me investigated the mountains and its incountable little trails and routes.
