The Lofotr Vikingmuseum is an interactive museum built around the excavated site of a Viking chieftain house. See a precise reconstruction of a Viking longhouse and Lofotr, a full-scale replica of the 9th-century Gokstad Viking ship. Wander through the blacksmith’s forge and the boathouses in this immersive historic experience.

Enjoy traditional Viking food in the banquet hall, including a hearty lamb and vegetable stew. Learn ancient craft skills from experienced artisans. Listen to local musicians play pieces from the late Viking and early Middle Ages periods. The museum also features a series of historical reenactments designed for both adults and children.

Participate in traditional Viking activities, including archery, horseback riding and axe throwing. The museum includes two reconstructed Viking ships, Vargfotr and Lofotr, capable of carrying 55 and 90 people respectively. Organize a rowing trip in one of the replica ships.

The impressive Viking longhouse is about 270 feet (80 meters) long. The original building dates to the 6th century. It is believed to be one of the largest structures ever discovered from the Viking Age. Learn about this extraordinary building from audio guides and modern exhibits.

This museum is the result of an archeological excavation and a long-running research project that started in the late 20th century. Learn about the Lofotr Vikingmuseum’s current research projects and how the results are integrated back into the museum. Research exhibits include displays on Viking food and stone architecture.

Lofotr Vikingmuseum is open daily during the summer and select days in the other seasons. Check the official website for more information, including activities, festivals and pricing.
