Yenworthy Barn, Countisbury

Property Summary
Yenworthy Barn in Oare sleeps up to 10 guests in four bedrooms. Set in a spectacular location on the northern slopes of Exmoor National Park, with views of the Channel, this is one of two traditional barns on the farm that has been sympathetically converted to offer a high quality accommodation.

Main Description
Yenworthy Barn in Oare will certainly appeal to countryside admirers and walkers, there's fantastic walking direct from the door and around 13 miles of footpaths to explore! Yenworthy Barn is part of Yenworthy Farm, set in ‘Doone Country’, and actually appears in the Lorna Doone novel itself. The gun, which was supposedly used to repel the ‘Doones’, still hangs in the farmhouse to this day. This working farm once had its own mill and the old water wheel can still be seen at the far end of the Barn.

Indoor Description
On the first floor (entrance level), there is an enormous space for sitting, eating and partying and a large well equipped kitchen. There is a bedroom on this floor with an accessible bathroom (i.e. wheelchair access) with the remainder of the bedrooms downstairs.

Outdoor Description
The Barn has a patio for sitting/eating out and an enclosed gardens for children and/or dogs. In addition, there is access to all the farm fields and streams and children can go far and wide in complete safety. Although there are farm dogs, they are friendly and very disciplined and they seem to rub along happily with visitors, both canine and human!

There is direct access to a myriad of paths for walkers, including the coast path and plenty of circular routes. There is a beach just below the farm which is fun to walk to but it is pebbly and rocky and not suitable for swimming. However, there are lovely beaches nearby - 15 minutes or so to Lee Abbey beach at Lynton and fabulous surfing beaches 45-60 minutes away at Croyde, Saunton and Woolacombe. Horse riding is available nearby..

Parking
There is parking for 3 cars directly outside the property. Further cars can be parked nearby if extra spaces are required.
We have no charging point. The nearer 22v charging points are in Lynmouth & Porlock. Also available are multiple charging points nearby if you check ZAP Map. If you charge at Yenworthy Barn it costs £0.30 per unit of electricity and you will need to pay directly to the owners. Please contact at messrsbenhalliday@gmail.com to arrange payment.

Pets Description
Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement (maximum of 5). A supplementary fee of £15 is payable per dog.
Please note: this property is situated on a working farm therefore you must ensure your dog is kept under your control at all times, as there is likely to be livestock nearby.

The region
Exmoor is situated in South West Britain, specifically across West Somerset and North Devon. Often referred to as England's best kept secret, Exmoor is a wonderful holiday destination for anyone looking for a holiday in the great outdoors! There's so much to see and do, from short walks to long expeditions across the moors or horse riding, taking in a safari or sight-seeing at your own pace around the 'picture postcard' villages and hamlets.
It is a place full of contrasts; dramatic coastlines of plunging cliffs, sheltered bays and historicports, wide open space and wilderness of the moors as well as the wooded valleys with quiet trails for you to enjoy. Exmoor is a holiday destination of unrivaled beauty and interest.

Countisbury is an attractive rural parish in North Devon and within Exmoor National Park. The 'wilds' of the moorland literally tumble into the sea creating dramatic cliffs and a breathtaking coastline.

Exmoor National Park is a popular holiday destination for walkers, cyclists and horse riders as well as those wishing to enjoy the many square miles of beautiful countryside and coastline and there a few better places to experience these activities than Countisbury.

The picturesque villages of Lynton and Lynmouth are 10 minutes away to the west and is famous for the funicular cliff railway that runs between the two villages. Malmsmead and the 'Doone Valley' is also nearby, made famous by the novel called 'Lorna Doone' by R.D. Blackmore. The capital of North Devon is Barnstaple and provides an extensive range of facilities including the famous Victorian pannier market and Butchers Row. Porlock is 10 mins to the East and Minehead, with an extensive range of supermarkets, shops, bank and restaurants, is 20 mins to the East.

Lovely clean cottage, nice and warm and perfect for going for a little walk around the farm (very hilly!) Small downsides were squeeky floors and low tap water in hand taps - however everyone was very happy with the showers! Towels and hairdryer provided were useful. All in all I would recommend a visit.

The lovely open plan living area really lends itself to large groups and the outside enclosed area was perfect for the dogs you can reach the south west coastal path within minutes, so ideal for walking. The views are incredible. Communication with Teresa was great, very prompt replies to any query and very accommodating. Added bonus was the Tesco delivers there! Would highly recommend.

This is a fabulous spacious barn conversion in the most stunning setting . We loved the fact we could walk anywhere on the farm and to the SW coast path . We loved the laid back welcome , of course we looked after it , no lengthy list of rules pasted everywhere thank goodness . The showers and hot water were awesome . Beautifully quiet and remote but within walking distance of the bus . Loved it all .
