This funky old beach house has a great view, but it is way overpriced and the listing is deceptive. Be warned: it is not “steps to the beach”. You need at least 5-10 minutes to drive to the other side of the highway and down to one of the parking lots. Although the beds can sleep 6 people, the dining table has room to seat only two. Lucky there was just two of us and even that was a tight fit. But, here’s the thing which really irked us, the property manager is a company called Evolve, which makes it even more confusing to deal with and the list of charges that drive up the price of the rental will send your head reeling. We are new to VRBO, so we were not careful about this. The final price we paid was at least one third higher than the listing due to the service charges that are not refundable. And they demand that you pay an exorbitant “damage protection” insurance policy, not a security deposit. That’s not refundable even when no damage has been done. We rented the house for two weeks for a ton of money and while we enjoyed our stay, we came away feeling like we could have gone to Hawaii and stayed in a hotel for that amount of money. Also, Evolve warns you somewhere deep into the paperwork that there are NO REFUNDS at all! For any reason. So, buyer beware. We will learn from this and never rent from Evolve again. On the plus side, the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms and kitchen were somewhat clean and functional, though nothing special. The interior of the bathroom/kitchen cabinets needed cleaning out. There are a few windows with no screens or holes in the screens which made it a little annoying when the flies came in. We never saw anyone come to service the hot tub, (which could use a new cover) so we stopped using it after awhile. Both the gas and the Weber BBQs were very grimy so we did not use them, and the decks/railings really need to be sanded and painted. The master bed has side tables, but no lamps and no outlets near the bed, so we bought an extension cord, moved a lamp from another bedroom and made a place to plug in our phones. The owner is pleasant and does her best to stay quiet as she lives in the converted garage with her dog who does bark a little but was not a problem. Overall, it was a quaint, kind of run down and neglected beach house, but not worth the cost.
