Rest a while at the cafés, lake and lawns of this urban park situated in the easy-going Hollerich quarter.

Wander away from Luxembourg City’s Old Town via wide boulevards to Merl-Belair Park. This urban space is a hotspot for the city’s many cultures and on any given day you can hear people conversing in a variety of languages. Merl-Belair Park welcomes everyone from businesspeople to courting couples, families and students. They come to enjoy the green lung of the Hollerich neighborhood.

A pond and pavilion dominate the south side of the park. Sit at the water’s edge, gaze at the verdant surroundings and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Bring a book to read, watch as the fountain shoots water into the air and spot ducks and fish swimming side by side. Inside the pavilion is a restaurant, which has an outdoor, pond-facing terrace.

The northern section is split between an area of tree-shaded lawns and a children’s playground. The well-maintained playground has a castle-like climbing frame, slides, swing and a zip line. Close to here is a set of small fountains fed by the pond.

A good option for lunch or dinner is the Parisian-style brasserie of the luxury Parc Belair hotel. Dine on French, Italian and Luxembourgish cuisine. The open-air courtyard affords park views and is ideal for warm, sunny days.

Those with an interest in student life will appreciate that the park is close to Campus Geesseknäppchen. This is the educational heart of Luxembourg City and features six academic institutions. The Conservatoire hosts regular performances of jazz, flamenco, orchestral and swing, among other musical genres. Visit the venue’s official website for a schedule and ticket information.

Merl-Belair Park is just 10 minutes by car and 20 minutes on foot from Place Guillaume II, one of Luxembourg City’s main squares. Public buses stop on the streets surrounding the park. It’s also possible to park, for a fee, on these streets.
