5 star cottage, private 62 acres, lakefront, swim, boat, sauna, pet-Friendly!

Morning Mist Cottage on Lake Deception with 62 acres has completed a five month renovated and is available August 28 and 29 with a last minute discount of $200, with a special last minute discount, (see calendar.)
Swimming, sand beach, boating, sauna, private and secluded, 3 fireplaces, ideal for children/families, couples, male and female getaways.

Every inch of this cottage has had an upgrade with three new bathrooms with heated floors, three bedrooms have been gutted and redecorated, all floors sanded and varnished, deck and dock upgrade, new outdoor dining table like none other, and every surface freshly painting and much more.

This has been a 47 year project and over the years I chipped away at improvements until this last renovation (phase 2 ).

HI, my name is Pauline Raymond and I am at your service to create the best holiday experience ever at our fabulous vacation property.

The swimming is accessible from the new the steps down from the dock or from our brand new sandy beach. Our lake is warm without weeds, with a sandy and rocky bottom and a gentle slope for walking into the water for young children.

The cottage was always meant as a retreat for rest and renewal. My vision statement has a naw word "Respect"...
for the woods, take, cottage and for those who gather. "Come Home to your Heart at Morning Mist Cottage Retreat; a place of Respect, Peace, Laughter and Love!"

This September we are installing a brand new top of the line salt water Arctic Spa to complete the wet or dry sauna. Arctic spas are the most highly rated salt water spas in Canada not only built for cold climates but for ultimate sanitation. Look for more information on the therapeutic value of these spas in a few weeks.

I am open for business the rest of the summer and throughout the fall and this year once again open for Christmas and New Years. Christmas is a four/five night stay and New Years is a three to four night stay. I am closing my doors for January and February but look for availability after that.

The main cottage has a primary bedroom with a king bed and an en-suite. For those wanting one level it is easily accessible. Our new beautiful bathroom on the main floor has a tub and shower. The upper level has two bedrooms with queen beds; one named the Green room and one the Yellow Room. The loft has a pull out coach and a half bath.

We accommodate nine guests in the warmer months and seven to eight in November and December. Babies under 24 months are free. There is a vintage bunkhouse with a queen bed and two bunks. Coming soon...renovating and decorating the original outhouse with a toilet and sink.

My rates are for four guests with additional guests at $20.00 per night. The first two year long renovation included gutting the interior living space (phase one) for a state-of-the-art kitchen, new floors, insulation, foundation and everything in between.

The waterfront is awesome...the best in 47 years. Swimming is beautiful from May 15 through November if you want a cold plunge after a sauna. We have two new youth mango coloured kayaks for six to 13-year old’s and a new orange Pelican single kayak to add to our red canoe. So much to do to create the Happiness that is the name for our main cottage.

Fireplaces are multiple. A wood burning in the cottage, an outdoor fire pit, and an outdoor propane fireplace.

The woods are a lush beautiful green right now and in the fall are alive with red, gold and orange. With 62 acres of woodland, privacy is what you have.

Wildlife is abundant...Mr. Beaver is back. He swims from one side of the lake to the other collecting limbs for his home on the other side of the lake. Often there is a family of ducks who swim over to nosy around before moving on.
If you get up early, singing birds will be music to your ears and at night the crickets chirp there way to a cheerful sleep.
For those interested in wildlife a mother deer and her babes are seen bounding through the woods...some of my green plants vanished:(

Morning Mist is unique for the history that has created what we have today. My property was stunning without updating however was necessary and I must say I am in love with the accomplishment. Coming soon...I am working on a nostalgic collection through words and photos as we moved through the years.

This lakefront property is suitable for families, couples, female and male retreats, honeymooners and lots of children.

We offer comfortable beds, three fireplaces, a dry and steam cedar sauna, jet massage whirlpool tub in the primary bedroom en-suite and everything you can think of to have a very special holiday. Yoga mats are in the primary bedroom for use anywhere on the decks and most importantly on our new yoga dock which will accommodate 14 guests for yoga.

Since the pandemic we have maintained high standards for cleaning and sanitation.

Morning Mist has a distinctive history that has created what we have today. Our privacy allows guests to connect with nature and have a sense of peace.

We offer watercraft, life jackets, firewood, outdoor fire pit and Geo Dome, swings and adventure in the forest.

Only twenty minutes away are pristine isolated white sand beaches...The Sand Hills Beach and Roseway are just a stone’s throw away. Swimming at these beaches is possible and very warm when the tide is coming in.

The Sand Hills beach in particular has the warmest ocean water around if the tide is coming in on a hot day. My children and I often left the cottage when the conditions were perfect at the beach to return to the quiet and tranquility of the lake.

Twenty minutes away we have a nine-hole Golf Club named River Hills Golf and Country Club. Just a mere 17 minutes away you can enjoy our historic town of Shelburne offering fine dining, and the home of the third largest natural harbour in the world. The historic waterfront was the site of the film The Scarlet Letter starring Demi Moore. We have a supermarket on King Street.

The pricing reflects double occupancy. The three private bedrooms with two queens and one king plus a pull out in the loft completes the main cottage. The vintage bunkhouse for spring, summer and fall has a queen bed and two bunk-beds. Kids and adults love the bunkhouse.

Morning Mist Cottage is special and it is the little things that make it so inviting.... I offer so much in one property and friends and families join together to create wonderful memories.

Whether you are a single person, group of men or ladies, inter generational families, yoga and wellness enthusiasts, this gorgeous retreat will entertain and delight all. It could be your special place for a small wedding of social gathering!

Lovely peaceful secluded location
Very quiet cabin by the lake. Lots of water sport equipment was provided. Very clean and cute. Looks just like the pictures. Friendly host was at the cabin when we arrived. My one pup was obsessed with the chipmunks. We also saw quite a few deer and ducks. Hubs saw beavers. Husband tried out the sauna and said it was top notch. Great little compound for a family gathering.

Great stay
Everything was awesome. Absolutely beautiful property with lots of privacy. The only thing that was slightly disappointing was the lake. The water was beautiful but the lake was very shallow. Even in the middle of it we could stand up and touch the bottom. Everything else was great. We all had. Ablast

Lovely lakehouse
Beautiful spot, very clean and comfortable. Property is secluded and surrounded by lake and forest. Very peaceful. Shelburne is about a 15-20 min drive, for groceries and anything you may need. Stayed with my teen, tween, husband, and elderly parents. We were all very comfortable and happy to spend time together in such a nice spot. Photos are very accurate. Maybe bring water shoes as the lake is a bit rocky, but shallow for any little kids. Pauline was a great host, easy to communicate with.

Amazing Family Getaway
Beautiful cottage and property. We totally enjoyed the private and peaceful setting. The lake was perfect, Such a great place to rest and enjoy nature. We saw five deer in total, a mother and two babies swam across the lake. Beavers at dusk, squirrels and a couple of bald eagles. We would highly recommend Morning Mist as a must go to vacation site. The cottage name Morning Mist lives up to its name. A truly 5 star cottage.

What the doctor odered.
This place is amazing. Pictures really don't do it justice. So clean, inside and out. The gardens and bird feeder attracted the hummingbirds. The view!!!! The dock!!! All 10 of us felt the stress melt away. We swam in the lake. You might need water shoes if your not use to rocks for a ways in. The canoe and kayaks were alot of fun. The kitchen and dinning table fit us all. Everything you need. We used the propane fire pit and the bbq. Thank you for all the propane. We had a chance to have a wood fire. Thank you for all the fire wood too. The town of Shelburne is not a far drive. Lucky for me I had others do the errands while I sat on the dock. lol. No one wanted to leave. It must be gorgeous in the fall.

Perfect family vacation
We are so lucky to have found Morning Mist cottage. Our family of 5, along with our friends family of 5 plus their dog have just had the best 4 days enjoying this little piece of paradise. The lake was so private, and Pauline provides multiple kid/adult kayaks, life jackets and a canoe. Definitely recommend bringing some big floaties to relax in,on the lake. The beach area near the dock was also great, and the dog loved the freedom to run around and go in and out of the water. We chose to sunbathe on the huge deck, it was so spacious and we all had room to soak up the sun. The fire pit is huge and Pauline provides more than enough wood and supplies. We had one day of rain showers, but still enjoy the lake and the sauna was another perfect added touch. Our kids absolutely adored the bunkhouse! Another piece of the great character of this property. Inside the cottage, we had everything we needed. Clean, well stocked, spacious, and as advertised. Honestly, the photos don’t do this property justice. The sun rises on the water and we watched the sun set from the water/floating dock every night. 4 adults and 6kids and not once did it feel like we were cramped or needed space from each other. Pauline was very easy to communicate with and was very prompt at getting back to me regarding the one question I had. Adults and kids all agree, we had the best family summer vacation . We hope to be back again next year!

Do not stay here
My family and I stayed here for a week this past august, lake deception is a perfect name for this cottage. Unsteady dock, broken mirror, broken sliding door, outside light hanging by wires etc the owner states a beach area on property well there isn’t one. Hard beds cheap hand soap. The list goes on. For the cost she charges you would expect higher quality. As people who have owned a cottage in the muskoka this cottage is not even up to par. Do your self a favour and find something better.

Total Escape
Pauline has created a comfortable and authentic Canadian experience with her lakeside cottage. The cottage is well provisioned and considered and unlike many rentals, feels like a home rather than a rental. Clearly she and her family have loved their cottage and you feel that, making it so much more special. The lake is gorgeous and the many areas to sit and relax are varied. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather so the various water toys and swimming platform were amazing. A really lovely property that created happy memories for my husband and I and our daughter and son in law who live in London, UK. If I were to invest in the property further, I would suggest an outdoor area that is protected from the rain and would offer a bit of shade during the day. Also - our prolific Canadian mosquitoes can be a challenge so having a screened in area for the evenings would be a huge benefit. We did love the gas fire pit in the evenings. The two canoes may also be on their last legs as they do leak. A couple of stand up paddle boards? These are merely suggestions but we had such a fabulous escape from our normal lives and hope to return again to this incredibly beautiful spot. Thank you Pauline!
