Downtown Retreat in Restored Historic Cottage with Off-Street Parking

Welcome to your Downtown Private Retreat. Since 2017, we have hosted guests in our one-of-a-kind cottage accommodation. The 1930s stucco home is truly centrally located and entirely restored with plenty of character, inside and out.

Explore the riverfront downtown and surrounding hills on foot or set off on day-trips in any direction. Driveway parking is included. Let us know if you want to reserve that for your stay.

There is a comfortable queen bed in a separate bedroom, spacious bathroom with stall shower, and a living room with twin Chinese lounge beds that have 5" high density foam cushions, a dining worktable with 4 chairs, 2 Mid-Century style chairs, and various storage areas. Internet is available, and 27" TV (with Netflix only), central air-conditioning or heating with a thermostat in the hallway (we need to make a switch between the two though). You will find an unusual assortment of antique furnishings from around the world and an amazing meditation room.

The tiny kitchen space has a refrigerator freezer, 2-burner induction cook-top, deluxe 5-in-1 wall oven, an 18” wide dishwasher, and cabinetry. The appliances have important instruction guides ......OR plan your retreat from the kitchen too!

Only steps out the door, there are many surprisingly diverse dining and entertainment options: coffee shops, restaurants, trails, and other local gems. Visit the international award-winning 2022 Public Library of the Year, an excellent resource with spectacular panoramic views. Grocery stores and laundromat are also nearby. University of Montana and St. Patrick Hospital are both within walking distance. Highway access and airport are not far.

Guests have private access and use of the main floor space via the steps or concrete ramp in the photos and plan layout. The entry door keypad code is changed after each guest. And there is an additional privacy lock, once you are in for the evening.

Whether you are here for the first time or a regular to Missoula, please feel free to call on us and we'll do our best to answer your questions and concerns. This could be just the place to stay for a while – rest, work, be inspired, have fun... whatever is on your horizon.

If you do come, PLEASE respect, and take care of this special place while you are here, so that everyone who crosses the threshold can enjoy and appreciate it too.

And visit us at China Woods for more about treasures from Southeast Asia - and Montana. We'd love to chat and hear your stories!

Beautiful Home in the Heart of Missoula
My friends and I had a wonderful time in Lynn's home. This place is walking discance to all the best restaurants and nightlife in town, and is also conveniently located in a perfect place to leave town for all your explanation needs. The home didn't turn into a hot box which is somewhat of an issue during the days which is nice. I would definitely return, this has been my favorite home in Missoula so far and I hope this review helps your decision because I would rebook in a heartbeat.

Great house and location!
We had a great stay - the house was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed, and we appreciated all the beautiful furniture and decor in the house. The location cannot be beat for attending an event at the stadium, or for walking to downtown shops and restaurants. The hosts were also very friendly, communicative, and helpful - they even arranged for us to be able to store our luggage for a few hours after check-out. I definitely recommend and would love to come back again to visit Missoula and stay at this place again!

Delightful Perfection
The Cottage worked out beautifully for our multi-generational family group. We were thankful to have a pack and play for use—it was a lifesaver. We were able to walk to the farmer’s market, the river path and area coffee spots. The Cottage is absolutely stunning and serene. We felt we were in a thoughtfully curated museum. We will be back!

My husband and I like this property so much, we have stayed there multiple times. We ran out of a couple of items during our most recent visit, texted our hosts, and received a response within minutes of our request. There are so many things within walking distance of this enjoyable, clean, and uniquely decorated home. We'll be staying there again!

Unique and comfortable
My husband and I liked it our second stay here even more than the first visit. Communication with the manager/owner is very good. The house is very clean, the bed had a comfortable, new mattress, the interior is spacious, and the location is within walking distance of historic downtown Missoula. There is much attention to the Asian decor and to the landscaping, making the property a beautiful destination. I highly recommend this location.

Mariposa Studio
The property is in a nice location to get around town. The bed, however, left a lot to be desired. Caves in the middle and woke up in pain everyday. Very clean and modern updates to bathroom and kitchen.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Mariposa cottage. The home is wonderful, with a warm and eclectic vibe that we loved. The bed was comfortable with fluffy pillows and soft sheets, the shower was hot, and the just-right kitchen had everything we needed. We look forward to our next stay the next time we are in Missoula.

Convenient Location, Walking Distance to Downtown
Lovely accommodations. There were two of us, and there was plenty of room. We didn’t even use one of the rooms. We walked to all our evening meals out. A small frig let us keep some things for breakfast (oatmeal, yogurt, fruit). One night we did takeout pizza and prepped a side salad. The kitchen includes a sink, microwave, toaster oven, all types of coffee preparation, a paring knife, plates, bowls, mugs, glasses, and flatware. The main bedroom is in back, away from the road, and traffic is minimal at night. So no problems with noise. We enjoyed our stay, and would book again if in the area.
