The territory of Monasterolo is punctuated by several springs from which you can draw water rich in natural properties. The main ones are in Località Pom (Legner area): the Smeralda spring has sulphate-bicarbonate-calcium-magnesic waters; the Gemma and Ferrobatteri springs offer bicarbonate-alkaline-earthy medium-mineral waters; the Adamantina source provides less mineralized but richer hydrogen sulphide water.
The Castle of Monasterolo is located at the point where the river Cherio was born from Lake Endine, the building seems to date back to the tenth century, when it was used as a Benedictine monastery.
From the Middle Ages to the present day the castle has undergone continuous transformations, but preserves its charm intact. Guided tours of the Castle and its marvelous botanical park are possible following the calendar scheduled every year by the Pro Loco of Monasterolo.
For Trekking lovers, from the center of Monasterolo del Castello many paths branch off in the adjacent mountains, paths that offer countless panoramic terraces overlooking the lake with breathtaking views.
Lake Endine:
The lake is only 200 meters from the Residence and is bordered by a wonderful pedestrian path, ideal for walking in peace.
On the banks alternate thick reeds, a place of reproduction of the rich fish fauna and shelter for the poultry fauna, to beaches dedicated to tourists, who can have a packed breakfast in specially equipped areas.
In the bathing waters of the lake you can practice swimming, canoeing, sailing boat, windsurfing but it is also possible to rent a pedal boat for a quiet trip with family and friends; Boat navigation is allowed only for oars or small electric motors to guarantee the preservation of the environment.
It is the ideal place for lovers of Birdwatching, Naturalistic Photography and Landscape for the colors of dawns and sunsets, made particularly interesting by the quality of the air and the reflections of the lake.
For fishing enthusiasts, the species of fish that are present are Tench, Lucci, Perch, Trout perch, Alborelle and Torpedo, the area is well known among Carp-fishing lovers.
In the evening in the summer, the climate is particularly cool, due to the currents coming from the Camonica valley and the Adamello.
In winter, as the temperatures drop for a few days below zero, the surface of the lake freezes creating a unique phenomenon, turning into an ice shelf of over 2 square km: a spectacle of nature and paradise of skaters.
The perimeter of the lake can also be traveled by bicycle, as it is flanked on the east side by the road connecting Monasterolo del Castello to Endine Gaiano while on the west side by the SS 42 of Tonale and Mandola.
The lake is located about 25 km from Bergamo, in a central position between the famous lakes of Como, Lecco, Iseo and Garda, is located at 340 m. of altitude between high reliefs, has preserved almost intact the natural environment and has been classified as a Park and as such, is subject to protection.
What to visit in the immediate vicinity in Val Cavallina:
Valle del Freddo Nature Reserve: in Val Cavallina, just after the little lake of Gaiano, Valle del Freddo is perhaps the most interesting and singular natural phenomenon in the whole territory of Bergamo because of its particular microclimate. In this place, located at only 360 meters above sea level, a wide variety of flora usually grows traceable only at altitudes above 1500 meters. All this happens because in the ground air currents are generated at very low temperature (2-4 degrees) that escape from a series of holes located in the bottom of the valley and allow the survival, even during the summer, of alpine vegetation including the Alpine star. Valle del Freddo is a park that can be visited during the months of May, June and July.
Valley of the springs and biopark: A network of two kilometers of trails winds through the thirteen hectares of the oasis of Gaverina Terme, where a deep relationship with nature can be found and discover the territory of the Val Cavallina, between biodiversity, culture and agriculture. Following these paths immersed in the green, you will find farmhouses, ancient roccoli, spaces dedicated to teaching and outdoor activities, as well as opportunities for in-depth study of the local history and culture. And if the trek has made your mouth water, the Bioparco of Val Cavallina also offers you pleasant food and wine breaks.
Cavellas Museum: A step beyond the threshold of Palazzo Bettoni ... and the journey begins in the history and culture of the Cavallina Valley: in the rooms of this eighteenth-century residence in the heart of Casazza, the story of a land shaped by the man unfolds he has intertwined his life with stone, water, vegetation and animals, defining his specific local culture over the centuries.
A dense network of water, worked stones, wild animals and grass pastures form a delicate ecosystem to be rediscovered and protected by man, as told by a selected collection of objects belonging to rural tradition and beyond.
