Fabulous and unique log cabin
What a great find! We loved our time in this cabin. It is just as described, if not better. The inside is modern, warm and has everything you need, with a well equipped kitchen, plenty of storage space and clothes hangers, a hairdryer, a towel each and excellent wi-fi too. There were mosquito nets at the bedroom windows so we didn't get bitten at night. A minor point and we worked around it, but some blinds or curtains in the bathroom which is downstairs and also in the downstairs toilet would be good.
The cabin is set in a huge garden with fruit trees and is so peaceful. Although there are two great terraces, the garden is so big, it would have been good to have a choice of seating and dining areas dotted around so we could make the most of the sun and shade at different times during the day.
Monbahus itself has one bar/restaurant, an amazing boulangerie and a small shop in the town. Driving to the cabin and feeling tired one Thursday night, we spotted a van serving takeaway pizzas which were delicious and we would highly recommend. We also loved the marche gourmande / hog roast which was on one night in the square during our stay.
We visited many of the nearby towns and villages but especially enjoyed cooling down at the end of the day at the lake at Lougratte. Going back to the cabin after a day out in 40 degree heat and switching on the air conditioning was wonderful and it ensured we all slept well at night too.
Communication was excellent during the booking process. Manon was quick to answer our questions and was very accommodating. As she doesn't speak English and our French is virtually non existent, we were able to use Google translate! Check in was more difficult and there may have been some misunderstandings (sorry, Manon!) as information was lost in translation, but Manon was very warm, friendly and very patient with us. Having a welcome pack, including the house rules/instructions in French, Dutch and English would be a massive help for visitors. Suggestions on days out, markets, nearest supermarkets, petrol stations, pharmacies, restaurants etc would be useful too.
We would certainly recommend the cabin to anyone and although we stayed in the summer, we can imagine it is magical in the winter especially with the fire going and the smell of something lovely cooking in the kitchen.
