Morven

Discover the notable people who have called this Princeton estate home, from a signer of the Declaration of Independence to numerous governors of New Jersey.

Morven Museum and Garden has seen over 250 years of New Jersey and United States history. Walk through its halls and gardens to experience some of that history. Located just a few minutes from Princeton University, the immaculately restored home and gardens offer a break from the bustle of the college town.

Join a docent-led tour of Morven’s first floor. Through paintings, furnishings and other artifacts, learn about the home’s fascinating history. Over time, two influential New Jersey families lived here: the Stocktons and the Boudinots. Morven’s impressive permanent collection is augmented by pieces on loan from the Boudinot Collection at the nearby Princeton University Art Museum and the New Jersey State Museum.

Tours, which last less than an hour, are offered several times throughout the day, from January through November, on a first-come, first-served basis. While there are no formal tours during the Festival of Trees, which takes place in December and early January, docents are available to answer questions.

Explore the changing exhibits on display in the five galleries on the second floor. The exhibits cover art, photographs and other artifacts from New Jersey. Three exhibits on different subjects rotate each year.

Relax in Morven’s elegant Garden Room, which overlooks the Colonial Revival Garden. Join the Wednesday formal tea, served every week from late January through November.

In the historic garden, explore the formal lawn and colorful annual flowerbeds. Relax in the Colonial Revival-style garden, which is a faithful recreation of Morven’s plantings from the early 20th century. Jets of water shoot up from the spray fountain and pool.

Morven has plenty of parking for cars and buses. You can also access it by New Jersey Transit bus or train line.

Find Morven in the heart of Princeton. Within easy walking distance, reach other highlights of the town, including Princeton University and the Albert Einstein House. Stop to enjoy the shops and restaurants downtown as well.
