Marvel at a bold, modernist bell tower that stands by the edge of the river in quiet Naperville before climbing to the top for views of distant Chicago.

Take a break from exploring Naperville in scenic Riverwalk Park and be sure to stop by the Moser Tower and the Millennium Carillon. This open-air tower, housing several bells that sound out during weekly recitals, is a modern development that has swiftly become an iconic sight in the town.

Learn about how this bell tower was a labor of love by local families. Naperville residents worked together in 1998 to raise the funds to create this monument as a gift to the city. It was completed in 2007 after an extensive building project and is now well loved by Naperville locals.

Come to the tower on a weekend to listen to the bells of the carillon. Volunteer bell-ringers sound out the numerous bells in an enjoyable afternoon recital.

Visit during the summer months and you can climb to the top of the tower. Prepare yourself for a hike up the steps to the top of the 160-foot (19-meter) tower. You can pause along the way at different stops, such as the upper and lower belfries.

Once you’re at the top, get out your camera and capture the stunning views of Naperville and Riverwalk Park. On a clear day, look east and you may see the glistening skyscrapers of Chicago’s iconic skyline.

An elevator is available to a mid-point observation deck for those who cannot take the stairs.

Browse the visitor center to learn about the history of the carillon and to ask about guided tours of the tower. Stroll down to the Riverwalk for a break by the water’s edge.

The Moser Tower and Millennium Carillon is located just over 30 miles outside of Downtown Chicago. Drive to central Naperville in about 50 minutes and then wander through Riverwalk Park to reach the attraction. Parking is available next to the park. Entrance to the visitor center is free but tours have a fee.
