Beautiful And Private Mountainside Log Cabin - Hot Tub And 10 Min From Nelson

Experience the town of Nelson and the Kootenay Mountains while living on your own private mountain side property located just outside of town. The Whitewater Chalet is the perfect balance of nature, tranquility and accessibility to experience endless adventure and Nelson, one of the greatest mountain towns in North America, and the cultural capital of the region. Tucked away, roughly 10 min from the town of Nelson, the chalet is nestled on a private property surrounded by lush forest with a creek, waterfall and private trails steps from the door. Enjoy an 8-person hot tub, two outdoor deck spaces, seating benches, walking trails and more.

In the winter, you’ll be the closest lodging option to Whitewater Ski Resort, just five minutes up our road. In the summer, access from the Chalet is endless with mountain biking, hiking, fishing, SUP, climbing and more at your finger tips. It’s the absolute perfect base camp for daily adventure.

Winter Access Warning - Please plan for winter driving conditions. 4WD, snow tires and/or chains are recommended for access to the chalet.

The Chalet is used exclusively as a vacation rental property and is maintained to be very clean and comfortable for all guests.

The beautifully finished, hand-built log cabin has everything you’ll need through all seasons to be comfortable. You’ll stay warm burning stocked wood in the wood stove, the cabin’s centered feature. You’ll stay hydrated drinking the greatest tasting water on earth, drawn from the Rambling Creek and waterfall next to the property.

The Whitewater Chalet’s main floor has a large open living space centered around a wood burning stove with a chimney stack that rises all the way to the ceiling. The open kitchen with counter seating and two adjacent dining table areas will keep everyone in your group together. The main floor of the chalet also has a large mudroom, laundry area and full bath. The large deck space off of the main floor has a nice outdoor table and chair set.

The downstairs level has two bedrooms (2 double beds in each room that can easily be pushed together) and a full bath with a stand-up shower.

The open loft level, upstairs from the main floor has a full bed and another twin bed if you need extra sleeping space.

A few steps from the main cabin is the guest cabin, a stand-alone, heated, private bedroom with a queen size bed. Guests sleeping in the guest cabin are just a few steps away from the full bathroom on the main floor level of the chalet. The walkway is nicely lit at night. The guest cabin is a unique addition to the property that will make you feel like you’re “glamping.” It’s absolutely perfect for a couple looking for privacy.
Access the cabin from a short meandering path or an elevated staircase that drops you into the mountain forest utopia.

Great place for a ski trip base
Love the convenient location for a home base. The property has a nice rustic cabin feel. It is clean (aside from a few dust bunnies that go with a log cabin) and has good amenities to make your stay great. The beds are comfortable, although they are short for tall people. In the kitchen there could be more cutlery (forks?!) and new frying pans. There was no propane for the outdoor grille so we purchased and left 2 full tanks. The cabin access path, including the wooden stairs, became quite slippery after a single snowfall. There was no sand or ice melter available, so watch your step. Be aware that the hot tub is user maintained and requires chemicals for proper water quality. We found the chemicals in the shed by the parking lot. Our group enjoyed our stay and hope to return next year!

We LOVE Nelson
First time to Nelson and we fell in love with this perfect little town! The cabin is indeed 10 minutes outside of town, but we could easily go to town whenever we wanted, then get away from it all when we wanted. As stated by other reviewers, the temps at the cabin are about 10 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than in town and since we were there the end of July, that provided some relief from the heat, although the cabin got pretty hot during the afternoon and early evening. The hot tub had a leak so we only used it once, and it required filling it up with a hose before use. It was supposedly getting replaced any day. A previous reviewer had mentioned the clear cut hillside adjacent to the cabin, so we were aware of it, but still taken aback by the reality of it. Guessing it is less startling when everything is covered in snow.

Great ski chalet
Stayed here with a couple friends on a ski trip. The chalet is large and comfortable for a large group or family. Beautiful setting, very close to whitewater for skiing and about 10min drive into Nelson. Given the large amount of snow the listing does say an SUV required to access the property and I would agree with that. As a parent of young children who were not on this trip, i would be cautious staying here with mobile toddlers. The staircase would be a concern, and if staying here in the winter you would not be able to safely use the fireplace. Would definitely recommend to those looking for a quiet chalet in the mountains!

A hide away spot in the woods
This is a perfect cabin for winter skiing. We stayed there in mid August. It is easy to find, but you have to drive up a gravel forest road for about 500 metres and there are no other cabins to spot.. The cabin is equipped with just about everything you need. We enjoyed our stay, although it felt a bit remote. Having said that, it is only a ten minutes ride to Nelson.

Beautiful space
We had a lovely time in this gorgeous cabin. It was secluded and generally pretty quiet. The occassional car drove by but we couldn't see them and it was a lovely escape. The place had lots of seating and all 8 adults were able to comfortably hang out in the living ro and deck areas. The hot tub was a hit and was in a great spot a little away from the cabin so it was nice and quiet if only a couple people wanted to use it. We were there in the shoulder season so it was a touch muddy, but that was well communicated to us and we were absolutely prepared for it and that was so we'll appreciated. Overall we all had a great experience and would suggest this place to anyone.

We loved this space for a ski weekend with friends. So close and convenient to Whitewater and beyond! The common spaces were perfect for eating and celebrating. Rooms were cozy and clean. Property manager was immediately helpful for one small cold weather water mishap. We hope to return to this sweet cabin in the woods!!

Rustic charm
Rustic charm within 10 mins to the mountain. Loved proximity to the mountain and privacy. Authentic log cabin with basic creature comforts. Wood stove provided the main source of heat for the living area. 4 wheel drive vehicle a must in the winter to access the driveway. The steps down to the house were steep, winding and well cleared. but were challenging with luggage. Best part was the feeling of being in a tree house. 15-20 minutes to Nelson. would consider staying there again due to proximity to the mountain.

The Perfect Cabin for a Winter Wonderland Vacation
My husband and I and our adult children wanted a winter vacation because we live in parts of the world where snow is rare. We couldn't have picked a better place. Located on the road to the Whitewater ski resort and close to lovely cross country ski trails, this cabin was exactly what we wanted. With the cute town of Nelson just 20 minutes away, we had it all. The cabin was rustic but well equipped. The electrical heat was supplemented by a wood-burning fireplace with a great supply of wood to keep it going. The driveway was plowed regularly early in the day so we never had access issues no matter how much it snowed - and it did snow! Folks with mobility issues should be aware there are stairs to get from the driveway to the cabin and you will probably have to clear snow yourself to get up and down them. Also, in winter be prepared for occasional short power failures. We lost power for 4 hours on our first evening and were glad we'd thought to throw flashlights into our car emergency kit. If we owned our own winter cabin, this would be exactly what it would be like: cozy, rustic, comfortable and close to all the fun things we like to do. We're so glad we found and booked it.

Property not as described
Place looks beautiful as u drive up, but you soon realize that it is not what u hoped for. (Reality compared to pictures) A large area of trees have been cut/fallen down around the cabin is the first thing u notice. Then once u go down the stairs to the cabin u realize the cabin is not near as nice or kept up as the pictures show. Spider webs inside up in the corners, old fridge that wasn't clean, counter tops in need of replacement. We ended up doing the dishes before we used them first time. Need to use a fork to get washing machine door open. (Cuboards by washer/dryer had lots of "junk" in them) The hot tub was functional but was very old and the wood paneling started to fall apart and rot. We thought we heard rodent activity overnight, but we were not sure till we found lots of mouse droppings behind speaker system above the staircase. Would we stay again? No.

The chalet and property conditions were not as posted.
The building and the outside surroundings are beautiful. I would have found my stay more rewarding if the place was clean (dirty dishes were left in oven) and the furnishings were updated (torn upholstery on a living room chair and on the outdoor furnishings). The queen bed upstairs was a foam mattress. The outside could have used some tender, loving care. The hot tub has broken/rotted siding. There were also fallen and rotted railing posts along the walk way to the cabin. Although they left a six pack of beer for us to enjoy, I would have preferred if the place looked more like the pictures. After sending messages about my disappointment I did receive an email saying that they were sorry that the place didn’t meet my standards. I would not stay at this place in the future. There are far nicer places offered in the area for the same amount of money.

Hidden in the trees
Great location. 10 km from Nelson and 10 km from Whitewater ski hill. Property is secluded in the trees, but easy to drive/hike to and from. Great hiking in the area. Lots of room in the house. We slept in bunky. Rain on tin roof was awesome. Soaker tub very nice, and only one shower, but 2 washrooms. Can hear road noise, but it isn't a busy road. Owner and manager were very responsive when needed. Lighting in main cabin could be better - as some of the lightbulbs were burned out, and could use a few more reading lights in main living room. Bunky was well lit and lighting from bunky to main house was well lit. Main house is comfortable with sturdy, older furniture. Functional kitchen, large living area, nice deck. Pillows in all rooms could be replaced. Bring your own otherwise. Coffee maker and filters provided. Lots of towels. Washer, dryer, dishwasher, hand/dish soap also in the main house.

Great cabin feel close to Nelson
Nice to have the out of town feel but the town is so close you can easily go and grab stuff you need to make your stay even much better. The house was as expected although i was hoping for a nice open plot of land close to the house for our dog ( which is available after a flight of stairs ). Just be prepared for stairs if you have elderly family members. Overall great experience. I would recommend this to couples as their bathroom has a gorgeous bath. Very open;)

Great location 10 min drive from Nelson! We really enjoyed watching the stars from the hot tub. Check in was great. We had no issues getting up to property but it was a bit bumpy on the forestry road in one of our lower clearance cars (Honda Fit). Rustic cabin vibes and make sure to bring your own cooking spices/oil ect as there isn't a lot there. Would recommend.

Cooling summer break in mountain cabin
The cabin is lovely - on the hillside (but close to the highway so traffic noise can be an issue). Cabin was clean and well equipped with everything we needed. Plenty of space for 4 people. We had a couple of days of very poor air quality caused by smoke from regional forest fires but we knew that was a risk. Most days the air was fine. Great place to explore Nelson and region - swimming and kayaking on nearby Cottonwood Lake and pelican watching (!) on Duck Lake (Creston). Nelson is a cool place to hang out and enjoy the atmosphere. Would have been great to have a BBQ to use on the deck (we didn't expect one as it wasn't listed) but everything great otherwise.

A beautiful stay in the woods!
This property was a lovely getaway without being too far from things. We stayed there during very hot temperatures and the property was about five degrees Celsius cooler than in Nelson proper. The home is well equipped and comfortably accommodated our crew of 8. Lots of kitchen equipment (dishes, pots, cleaning products, etc.), and seating for all. The kitchen lighting is a bit dim, but maybe that is due to difficulties in wiring a log home? There is no A/C but we brought our own fans, which helped (I am not familiar with the average Nelson summer temperatures, as this may have been an unusually hot year). The location felt very safe. We left our bicycles outside with no issues. The house is only 10 km from downtown Nelson, with only a few hundred meters on unpaved roads. We would definitely stay at this home again!
