The New Jersey Performing Arts Centerwas the vision of the former New Jersey Governor, Thomas Kean, who commissionedthe idea in 1986. The venue opened in 1997 and along with several othercultural attractions on the Passaic River waterfront, the venue has helpedinvigorate the city of Newark into a world-class cultural destination.

Previous performers to grace the stage includemusician Bob Dylan, the Royal Danish Ballet Company and numerous otherwell-recognized stars. The world-renowned New Jersey Symphony Orchestra arebased here and play a summer season each year.
