Study town models and ride the sloping elevator to the inside of a turquoise dome for an excellent vista of Hannover.

The New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus) is among the most iconic structures in Hannover. The enchanting sight, which has a majestic façade and large dome, stands in the picturesque Maschpark. Admire the classic architecture of the complex.

Relax on the pleasant square known as the Trammplatz in front of the building. Trees and paths decorate the lawn in the shadow of the grand structure. Capture photos of this elaborate building, with its red rooftops and light green dome.

Enter the palatial site and walk through the airy hall. It often hosts a range of art exhibitions. Learn about the development of the city through the four models showing it at various stages. These include the Middle Ages, pre- and post-World War II and present day.

Make your way to the Hodler Hall for the large mural, Unanimity. See the mosaic works of art in the Mosaic Hall. The Ladies Hall is known for its majestic décor and furnishings.

Ride the elevator to the interior of the main dome. The lift has an exceptional sloping angle, making an arched route to its destination beneath the ceiling. Enjoy the panoramic view from the viewing platform, which is 320 feet (97 meters) high. Pick out your favorite attractions from the historic center and gaze into the distance, past the parks and ponds of scenic Hannover.

Note that the structure was built in 1913 and has served as the main seat of administration for the city. It was heavily damaged by air raids during World War II. Today, the building also holds the mayor’s office, as well as the registry office.

Take a break at the Garden Hall restaurant overlooking the pond. The building opens daily from morning until late afternoon and is free to enter.

The New Town Hall is at the northern end of the Maschpark in the historic center of Hannover. Take a bus to the Hannover Rathaus stop and walk west for several minutes to get to the structure. Visit nearby sights, such as the Lower Saxony State Museum, the Museum August Kestner and the Theater am Aegi.
