Make your way to the historic Yaquina Head Lighthouse, which featured in the iconic horror flick The Ring. Use the displays in its interactive center and speak with docents to learn about the history of the structure, which was built in Paris in 1868. Spot gray whales from late autumn through early winter and late winter through early spring.
Wander around the pleasant grassy cliff top of the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area and enjoy the views of Cobble Beach. The cliff is an ideal spot for a picnic during the area’s hottest and driest months of July and August. Expect fairly wet and windy weather the rest of the year. When you do have sunny weather enjoy a few rounds at the Agate Beach Golf Course.
Bring the kids to the large tanks full of fascinating sea creatures in the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Let them take part in the Sleep with the Sharks sleepover activity and go diving with the fish. Near the aquarium is the Yaquina Bay State Recreation Site, which has a lighthouse.
Rent a wetsuit and board from one of the surf shops decorating the town and head for the sandy stretches, such as Beverly Beach, Moolack Beach and the popular Nye Beach. Enjoy kayaking, fishing and crabbing in this part of the Central Coast.
