We’ve been going to the Benson Farm for the month of August for the past six years – we went on a whim the first year, fell in love with the place and keep going back. Actually, not only did we fall in love but so has our extended family (grandparents, aunts/uncles and cousins) who never miss a chance to come visit us while we are there! You could not ask for a more idyllic corner of the world to relax and enjoy your summer days. The house sits on an expansive property on a small peninsula so you enjoy views of the water from both the East and the West. You wake up in the upstairs bedrooms to the sun rising over the water and you watch the sun set over the Camden Hills on the other side in the evening. We spend most of our time outside – whether playing on the tennis court, jumping into the water off the dock, walking on the beach, biking around the island, playing ping pong or board games in the barn, playing all sorts of sports on the front lawn, or just sitting in the grass or on the porch and enjoying the sun and the beautiful views. Our three children (who are now 13, 11 and 8) love the freedom of being able to bike the three miles to the grocery store and playground/basketball court or the six miles to town to get ice cream or look around the gift shop – it’s a very kid-friendly place. The house is large and there is room for a number of people to stay so it’s a great place for families to get together. We eat, talk, laugh and relax. In fact, from the moment the ferry leaves Rockland to cross over Penobscot Bay to North Haven, you feel the stress melting away. I actually took pictures of various views from the house and put them in my office to try to maintain my North Haven summer zen throughout the year! It’s really a gorgeous spot!
