Lovely Private Home with Pool 200m from the Beach

Nosara Beach House, 3 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths, (sleeps 7)

NEW AS OF January 2021: 30mbps internet, New granite Kitchen, all new appliances

Note: There are 12 Premier Host properties out of the 400 VRBO properties In Nosara and Casa de Memphis I & II are two of the twelve. We were awarded this award by VRBO for our actions during the Covid-19 upheaval. How did we earn this award? Well quite frankly we refunded everyone 100% of any and all funds regardless of our own refund policy. We did not have to do this but we did because it was the right thing to do. Most in fact did not. You can rent with assurance with Casa de Memphis and we have over $100,000USD in refunds to prove it.

Casa de Memphis II is located at the little known north entrance to Playa Pelada where the Nosara River meets the Pacific Ocean. (Note: There are two Casa de Memphis’,I & II. They are located just around the corner from one another.) This private beach house is part of a collection of 8 private houses surrounded by the beach on one side and the ostional wildlife refuge on the other. There is only one road in or out and few people are aware that this section exist. This location is very private yet still very convenient to the beach, restaurants, grocery stores and everything else the community of Nosara has to offer.

The location is what makes this small community so special. With the ocean on one side, the Ostional wildlife area on the other and the Nosara River meets the Pacific Ocean near by, the area is a Mecca for wildlife. Because of the peaceful coexistence between the home owners and the natural surroundings, the wildlife literally comes to the door of the house. If you are looking for private seclusion surrounded by peace and quiet, this is it. That is until a flock of parrots land in the tree above and the neighborhood monkey troop join in, then it gets a little noisy, but they were there first.

The house is a one minute walk to the beach. Constructed in the style of the surrounding community; this one story two bedroom house is set up for the traveling family. One bedroom has a full size bed and the other has two set of custom made punk beds. Both bedrooms have private baths with walk in showers. There is a twin bed in the main room up in the loft. There is also a separate, private one bedroom cabina with its own private bathroom and garden that is only accessed by a private bridge over a stream. Together the two will sleep 8 people. Both the house and the cabina are fully air conditioned, and they have all of the amenities of home including, private pool, dishwasher that actually works, beach towels, cable TV, high speed wireless internet, fully equipped kitchen, outdoor grill, pool chairs, monitored alarm system and more. The house and cabina are only rented out together, never separately. Note: the kitchen was completely torn out and remodeled in late 2020.

Important: The house has a water storage system that will supply all of your water needs when local water company is forced to shut off the entire water system in times of draught during the evening hours. This usually happens around 16:00 and is not turned back on until the system fills back up the next morning. This is a big issue to most of the other houses that do not have this system. Casa de Memphis guest will never even know it!

Because the house sits at the end of a road there is no through traffic, noise or the associated dust commonly found elsewhere.

Security: Costa Ricans are by nature a very passive people. That said petty theft is an on going issue. Nothing neutralizes this issue more than common since. CdM I & II have monitored alarm systems and 400 pounds safes bolted to the floor. No other house available for rent has this level of security.

Tired of cooking? We can arrange for a private chef to do all of the shopping, come to the house and prepare the menu of your choice at a mere fraction of what dinning out would be. This is the best bargain in Nosara and the wife of the owner of the house takes full advantage of this. Imagine, someone comes to the house at 17:00 (5PM), cleans, prepares dinner, cleans up afterwards and departs by 20:00 (8PM). Cost: $30 plus groceries. Tell us what you want and we will make it happen.

NOTE: Nosara, like many other beach communities, is experiencing a building boom. The northern end of Playa Pelada, where the house is located, is the only location free from the early morning construction noise, truck traffic and the associated dust. Dust is a serious issue from December to May. While there is very little traffic in front of the house we still apply molasses to the road out front to seal off the dust. Place smells like pancakes.

Wonderful stay
We enjoyed the property and Sara was great to communicate with. The house was fine and we had everything we needed. The pool was nice at the end of the day. The only negative comment I have is not about this property but of the roads surrounding it. They were horrible and we were very happy we rented a golf cart with off road tires. Almost a must for the time of year we visited. Hopefully something can be done about the state of the roads, but I can see the rains being a challenge.

The house was so close to the beach and had amazing wild life in the backyard. We were walking distance from restaurants. We loved hearing and seeing the howler monkeys every morning.

Nice Stay
The location of the house is wonderful, as it is within really close walking distance to the beach. There were a couple of glitches with the Wi-Fi and a leaky roof, but other than that, we had a great time.

Lovely spot
We enjoyed our stay. We did not use the casita or the upstairs loft area. The pool was perfect for the hot weather and enjoyed by everyone. We saw monkeys daily and enjoyed the wildlife - birds, lizards etc. Very short walk to the beach and close to many local attractions but in a quiet area. Tiffany, the property manager, was helpful and attentive. Thanks for sharing your home!

Could not have enjoyed our stay more at CDM2 and the Nosara region. Loved being able to walk to the beach for sunsets, relax by the pool and enjoy everything around the town. We'll be back.

Beautiful House
The only complaint was all the ants. We stayed in the little casita the first night but after my wife found ants in the bed we had to move into the main house. This may sound like a big complaint but it was just a minor nuisance. The place and location are amazing. On a scale of 1-10 I would give the house manager and the personal chef a 25.

Casa De Memphis II is a great place to take the family, for a serene, quiet place to stay, that's just a quick walk from one of the most beautiful secluded magic beaches you'll ever find. Take a quick drive to Nosara and Playa Guiones for organic food, epic surf and a yoga session. You will not be disappointed. PURA VIDA

Tucked away and close to the beach!
This is overall an absolutely lovely and perfectly Nosara property. The back deck and pool area with beautiful plants and trees are serenely divine. The home is spacious, including the bedrooms, and more than served our needs. Really the bedroom with two sets of bunkbeds and the master bedroom are larger than I would have imagined. With the casita and loft included, this home is great for a large family. We were supposed to be here for a month with family visiting at different times. The month did not happen due to Covid~19, but the home was a complete delight whether filled with family or quietly with just a couple of us. We enjoyed the journey back to the secluded location, whether on the low road past El Chivo and Il Pepperoni or the high road towards LaGarta Lodge but down to Pelada. I wish we could have remained for our entire stay. It is a continual delight to wake to the call of the birds and the howl of the monkeys. We certainly hope to return soon!

Wonderful Nosara
The property was very welcoming and clean. We especially enjoyed drinking coffee in the morning while listening to the music of the birds and occasionally Howler Monkeys. The property is less than 150 yards to the beach and is a great place to watch the magnificent Costa Rican sunsets!

Nice location near beautiful beaches.
We enjoyed our stay at Casa De Mephis II. It is a traditional Costa Rican home and was a comfortable place to stay. We had a 4 wheel drive car, which is a necessity if you stay here, and were happy to visit many of the nice restaurants in area. La Luna, Lagarta Lodge and El Chivo were our favorites. The beaches were lovely and private. Unfortunately we didn't use the casita as planned, due to a noisey family of iguanas living on its roof, but fortunately there were enough bunk beds in the house for all and they were comfortable. We enjoyed our stay. Also the pool was the perfect place to cool off after a beautiful day at beach. We miss Costa Rica already!

We enjoyed our stay very much. House was typical of Nosara rentals, and we were well served by it. Heard Monkeys every morning, usually extremely close. You can easily walk to the beach in a few minutes on level ground. Cannot reach the river mouth from this beach entrance however, as there is a large outcropping blocking the way. Pool was nice way to cool of and listen to birds and monkeys.

We had a great time at casa memphis 2
The house is comfortable and very well equipped. Location is perfect minutes of walk to the beach and short drive to the main beach we love. Only issue was probably too many trees around the pool we constantly have to clean the pool and tree blocking most of the Sun which makes it too cool for kids to use the pool in the morning. We had a wonderful time at ur house David thanks a lot for letting us stay there.

Beautiful, comfortable amenities in Costa Rican paradise
Our family (2 teenagers & my husband and I) spent a lovely week in Casa de Memphis 2 just last week. What an ideal home to soak in the the glorious morning sun and then get cozy when the afternoon rains move in. The house is clean, spacious and charming. The pool is amazing! A perfect way to cool down on a humid day. We waked daily to Playa Pelada - only 5 minutes away - which is a stunning, uncrowded beach. This part of Nosara is quiet, with few restaurants or activity accessible by foot ( the exception is Olga's & La Luna down the beach). Our girls would have probably preferred a bit more action, but I recommend this part of Nosara for those who savor quiet & simplicity. Our only wish was that there was more separation ( perhaps more plant growth?) between Casa de Memphis and the yard of the house next door, as we were often we privy to pool activity on their side. All in all, however, I highly recommend Casa de Memphis for the Nosara traveler! Thank you David &Tiffany.

Not a nice experience
We rented the property for 8 people, 3 rooms. It had a main house with 2 rooms and a ‘casita’ outside that was the third room. We got there and the casita was dirty, dirty sheets and bathroom. They cleaned. At night when we tried sleeping there, surprise, it was infested with bugs. Nests of ants in the roof, flying insects by the hundreds. I called the manager and she tried to tell me it was normal for the area... We are from Costa Rica so we have stayed at lots of jungle and beach places..that was not normal. So I tried writting to the owner, to my surprise he answered my email with a response to his manager... including the phrase: ‘What did I once say ‘’don’t rent to locals’’- It was a bad experience overall, we never saw the property manager, she did not teceive us, came to see the problem or even came when we left to get the keys. I will be sending a formal complaint with VRBO

Spacious, ideally located, lovely Beach/Jungle Home
We stayed in David's home for 4 days during our trip to Nosara and Playa Pelada. Our stay was absolutely wonderful! The home was well stocked with bedding, kitchen appliances, towels, and all! The AC and internet were both a wonderful luxury in the area as we came to find out. Only one or two momentary power outages but everything came back on and worked perfectly. We had an amazing time there and would absolutely visit/rebook again! Thank you to Tiffany the property manager who went above and beyond to accommodate our check in and check out times with a smile and genuine kindness. We greatly appreciated the late check out due to our refrigerated food needs. We truly felt welcome and at home during our entire stay. Mucho Gracias!

Awesome house in an incredible area!
We really enjoyed our stay at Casa de Memphis II. Dave was very responsive to any questions that we had and we were able to work with the property manager Tiffany to address any questions during our stay. We took advantage of the in-house chef option and Tatiana made some of the best food we had eaten during our stay! The house is located right next to one of the most amazing beaches we have ever been to that is literally empty. We were usually the only people on the beach during our stay. Grocery options are close, but to get to the bigger store a rental car/taxi would be necessary. This house is located a short walk down from Bar Olgas and La Luna - two excellent spots. We can't wait to return and when we do we will be staying in one of Dave's properties!

Perfect getaway for a family
What a great trip. Casa De Memphis II was the perfect house in an amazing location for our family trip. The property is laid out ideally to allow family members to have their own space when needed, while the pool and family room were outstanding common areas. In fact, the pool was used almost non-stop. The Nosara area was great too. Playa Pelada next to the house is a little quieter - had the beach to ourselves many times, while a short walk or drive allows you to be at busier beaches. There are a number of options in restaurants in Playa Pelada, which are walking distance. Playa Guiones is only a few minute drive away, and is more bustling - although still very laid back. Surf lessons were a fun family activity in Guiones. The Casa De Memphis owners - Dave - and manager - Tiffany - were also very helpful both in advance and upon our arrival. Again, a great trip!

Misleading descriptions and missing info dampened our March stay
All vacation experiences are subjective. I'm glad people enjoyed their stay and gave it 5 stars. That was not our experience. For starters, it would have been nice to know before, or if it started after our rental agreement, that the water is turned off every day from between 3:30-5:00 in the afternoon and resuming between 7:30 and 9:30 in the morning. As part of the rental agreement, whenever you leave the building, it must be locked, the alarm set, the AC and fans turned off. This involves: locking your valuables in the safe, with 2 padlocks, locking the back door gate with a padlock, then locking the back door with a key, then locking the front door with a key, then locking the front gate with a padlock, but before you do that, arming the security system. Sometimes one of us forgot something, so the entire front door scenario had to be done again. As two, single ladies, we locked the gates and the doors from the inside at night too. We had to get a locksmith over because the front door key was bent and didn't always work and the rear door key started having issues by the time we left. It concerned us if we needed to leave in a hurry. As for Peace and Quiet, it can be, depending on who is in the rental next door. The houses are very close and the swimming pools allow for the sound to travel. We were lucky in the beginning, but the last days we had a group young people that started drinking their margaritas early, so by lunch the loud laughing, inappropriate language, and music started. We did mention, on their first day, about how sound travels, but tequila made them forget. The house is not on the beautiful beach, a 5 min. walk away, and the pool was the saving grace. The driving is terrible, the roads full of potholes, but in order to get decent groceries, you need one. Get Insurance! Someone at Super Nosara put a ding in my car. If I didn't have the insurance, I'd have been out quite a lot! There is lots to do in Playa Guiones, a long walk down the beach, but really nothing around this house. The kitchen and utensils were not very clean, nor organized, and the track light needs fixing/replacing as it's got a short. An electrician came, but never returned. Shorts can cause fires! The crashing noises on the roof - Ctenosaurs! Similar to Iguanas, they soak up the sun in the gutters. We left a day early, because of the water /laundry issue and I'm still waiting for my refund.

Jungle and Beach in chill Playa Pelada
Just the most awesome place! Walk down the beach, enjoy the pool, nice a/c at night, TV/Netflix, good restaurants a walk down the road (or on the beach too). The house was clean, prepared, and is a relaxing place to recover from your adventures. There are bars on all the windows and doors (expected in high theft areas), an alarm system to use when you leave, and a huge safe. My only concern with this setup is that there is no quick exit in an emergency. The doors and gates lock from the inside and require fiddling with keys to gain entry/exit. There is also the possibility, albeit a bonehead possibility, of locking yourself in the house... The padlocks on the gates lock without a key which means if you don't have the key you will not be able to exit the house. I would recommend changing the padlocks to either a combination or the kind that require a key to lock. However, this is a small issue that should not present a problem for most people. The house is great like I said, but Playa Pelada is not for the pampered traveller. Lots of bugs, crabs, dust, bumpy rides, stray dogs, petty theft, but these are minor inconveniences for anyone who knows how to appreciate natural sanctuaries and enjoy life. During our visit the town had to turn the water off for at least 12 hours every night, but there was plenty of fresh drinking water that was made available for us at the house... Much appreciated!
