Watch the sun set over the Pacific Ocean, play with kites in the powerful wind and relax around bonfires on this dramatic stretch of shoreline.

Ocean Shores Beach runs along the entire length of a peninsula, which stretches for about 8 miles (16 kilometers) down Washington’s coastline. Gaze in awe at the mighty Pacific Ocean as it crashes against the North JettyOpens in a new window and find a peaceful patch of sand where you can relax with friends. The beach is often used for lively community events, while the ocean is a playground for watersports enthusiasts.

Before heading to the beach, learn about the ecosystems of the peninsula in the Coastal Interpretive Center. Displays are dedicated to different facets of the region and focus on such topics as the shipwrecks that line the west coast and the Quinault Indian Nation.

Walk along Ocean Shores Beach at different times throughout the year to see the many faces of the Pacific. In summer, sunbathe, play volleyball or try surfing. Come in winter to see the water at its wildest. Spring brings gray whales to the area.

Several events take place on the beach throughout the year. Watch locals fly a variety of kites at the Festival of Colors in June or the Fun Fly in August. In July, the Ocean Shores Beach Blast brings pop-up vendors, fireworks displays and live music to the beach.

Bring your binoculars and point them to the skies to look for rare birds. You may see peregrine falcons and brown pelicans flying over the beach.

Ride a horse along the sands for a thrilling way to experience this dramatic location. Horse rental venues are located along the beachfront.

Try your luck in the Quinault Beach Resort and Casino, located on the northern end of the beach. Admire views of the ocean and wetlands from almost every window as you make your way around the casino.

Buses run regularly from SeattleOpens in a new window to the peninsula, where the beach is easily accessible. Alternatively, drive to Ocean Shores Beach and park on the shoreline.
