Collect shells, go bird watching, take a stroll on Marginal Way or simply admire the oceanfront views along Ogunquit’s beloved stretch of coastline.

Smell the salt air and walk with the sand beneath your feet at Ogunquit Beach. The beach lies between the Atlantic Ocean and the Ogunquit River. It is within convenient walking distances from the town center. Explore its 3.5 miles (5.6 kilometers) of shoreline and enjoy the sea and surf.

Ogunquit Beach consists of several sections. North or Moody Beach at the northern end merges with the town of Wells. At Footbridge Beach, traverse the long footbridge spanning the Ogunquit River. Piping plovers often nest nearby. At the southernmost tip of the sandy peninsula, join fellow beachgoers at Main Beach. Enjoy calmer and warmer waters on the river side of the beach. During low tide, explore Little Beach, which appears only when the waters go out.

From Ogunquit Beach, continue walking south along Marginal Way to the picturesque community of Perkins Cove. Along the way, admire stunning coastal views, including the white Marginal Way Lighthouse, no longer in use.

If you didn’t pack your own supplies, rent chairs, umbrellas and floats at Ogunquit Beach. Enjoy a number of facilities including rest rooms, outside showers and picnic tables. Purchase refreshments at the snack shack along Footbridge Beach, which is open seasonally, or at restaurants near Main Beach. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer season.

Parking is available for a fee in multiple public lots in Ogunquit on a first-come basis but they tend to fill during the summer. Arrive early to be sure you’ll find a parking space. Ogunquit Beach is located less than 1 mile (2 kilometers) from the center of town, so you can easily walk between the two places. During the summer season, ride the Ogunquit Trolley for a charming and convenient way to get around the area.

Visit Ogunquit Beach any time of year. Although it is a popular destination for tourists and locals, the beach never loses its authentic charm. Expect more visitors during the summer, when people flock to its shores to swim and sunbathe. During the off season, enjoy a quiet stroll along the coast to collect seashells and appreciate the dramatic vistas.
