Our Lady of Carmen Church is a charming religious building with a bright yellow colonial façade. The 18th-century structure is known for the ornate works of religious art that decorate its interior. Chat with the local worshippers and clergy for a glimpse into the religious traditions of Ciudad del Carmen.

Snap photos of the extravagant yellow façade and note the stylish black balcony held up by four white pillars. Gaze up at the yellow twin towers that rise above the façade. One tower has an elegant clock. Relax on a bench outside the fence of the church and watch people go by in the scenic tree-laden Ignacio Zaragoza Park.

Meet friends and hang out in the park’s bandstand. See the church at night, when its lights bathe it in a bright glow. Vendors gather between the park and the church to sell snacks and refreshments.

Walk through the black gateway and the grand arched portal of the church to reach its nave. The elegant design includes a mahogany wood ceiling and a pink marble altar. Take a seat on a pew and listen to a religious service for a sense of the local culture and customs. The tranquil church also provides relief from the afternoon heat and the bustle of city life.

Make your way around the interior of the church and inspect the various artworks depicting scenes from the Bible. Admire the mural of winged baby angels above the altar. Among the highlights is a model of the Virgin Mary holding the baby Jesus.
