Quiet, beautiful ocean view and near to Volcano N.P. and beautiful black sand beach. Restaurants and grocery stores are limited but we just stopped in Hilo for provisions, made some nice dinners in the full kitchen and ate on the pato watching the sun set over the Pacific. Wonderful location if you want to experience rural Hawaii.

Loved the quiet, low key property. Very restful for a refreshing get away. Hardly used the air conditioner as the condo was set up with good cross ventilation. Good base to visit all the attractions on the island. Also, has minimal VOG when the volcano was erupting.

I didn't like it. No drinking water, had to pay for a noise air conditioner. The upstair started throwing furniture around at 2:30 during our nap!! The office couldn't tell me how much i paid. The couch and chair was to scratchy to sit on without putting a sheet over them

We’ve visited this property multiple times over the years without issues. However, on our most recent visit we checked out and forgot my boyfriend’s wallet on the counter by the TV in the room. We immediately called when we realized it was forgotten and the front desk said they would have someone check the room for us and call me back. They called back and stated the wallet was not in the room. The designer wallet has not been recovered at all— along with the $200 inside of it. On the upside, whoever took the wallet did not use the cards which we confirmed when we canceled them. It greatly saddens me because this was one of my family’s favorite places to stay and I’m truly disappointed that this happened.

It's a beautiful place, gardens and flowering trees kept in immaculate condition. A really nice pool and jacuzzi, and an easy walk to the black sand beach. The staff are friendly and helpful and the apartment was great, well equipped with everything we needed including laundry. I definitely recommend Colony 1, and would love to stay here again.

Second time we've stayed at Pahala and it was great. Can't wait to visit again. Colony I is quiet, so close to the beach you can walk and the pool is never crowded. We splurged for the portable in-room AC unit since it was a hot september this year.
