Snorkeling in crystal-clear water, walks in scenic olive groves and quiet moments in an ancient monastery await visitors to this pretty beach on Corfu’s west coast.

Paleokastritsa Beach is a picturesque village and beach resort on Corfu’s spectacular west coast. Enjoy superb snorkeling and scuba diving in the clear blue waters. Stroll through verdant landscapes to lookout points and a centuries-old monastery. Watch spectacular sunsets from the terrace of a waterfront bar. The combination of watersports, countryside and culture make Paleokastritsa Beach popular with couples, families and young travelers.

Visit the resort to relax on any of its six small beaches set around a bay of scenic coves. The beaches vary from white sand to pebbles and all look out to the enticing Ionian Sea. Rent a sunbed and umbrella, kayak or paddle boat at most of the beaches. There are also public toilets and showers.

Get active at the beach with excellent snorkeling and scuba diving. The caves, rocks and clean water create a natural habitat for colorful marine life. Note that the water temperature here is cooler than at other Corfu beaches. Back on land, spot an interesting array of fish and reptiles at the Corfu Aquarium, just a few minutes’ walk south.

Be sure to visit Paleokastritsa Monastery, which sits on a hilltop and is about a 20-minute walk away. Admire the monastic architecture and marvel at the views of Corfu’s western coastline. Another walk leads through olive and cypress groves to the village of Lakones, which affords additional impressive views.

Around Paleokastritsa Beach, discover a good selection of traditional Greek taverns, restaurants and cocktail bars. Find a seat on one of the outdoor terraces, order a cold beer or cocktail and enjoy a spectacular sunset. Don’t miss the beach bar called La Grotta, which is set in a cave. It’s accessible via a staircase from the resort’s main road or by boat.

Paleokastritsa Beach is about a 40-minute drive from Corfu Town. As one of Corfu’s most-loved beach resorts, it is well-connected by public transportation. Buses run daily at regular intervals between the resort and Corfu Town. Parking is available close to the beach, although during the high season spaces fill up fast. Catch a water taxi to reach the more isolated coves and beaches.

terrifying traffic - fast moving on narrow road with no pavements. Avoid the whole area.
