This is the former house of one of the pre-eminent creators of modern art in the 20th century. Now, it is home to more than 1,500 of his works.

Visit the Pedro Nel Gomez Museum and House (Casa Museo Pedro Nel Gomez), which is devoted to one of Medellin’s most illustrious artists. It contains more than 1,500 works of modern art. When the artist died in 1984, he donated his house to be used as a museum. See the murals and framed paintings decorating the walls, and sculptures and wood carvings that fill the rooms. Gomez’s old personal library is also part of the museum.

The site contains 10 exhibition rooms. Admire the charming brown-and-white décor of the spacious rooms. Inspect the reputable works of art on display. Browse the walls to appreciate Gomez’s famous murals. Learn about important moments in the history of Medellin and the state of Antioquia through the frescos. Enjoy the eclectic range of art on show, which ranges from watercolors and oil paintings to sculptures and engravings.

Take a guided tour of the house to learn more about the artist’s life and the works he left behind. Browse the books in the house’s library. It contains Gomez’s personal collection of volumes and documents on the theme of art.

The museum was founded in 1975 by the artist’s family as a tribute to his work. Gomez continued living in the house until his death nearly a decade later. It is open to the public every day from morning until late in the afternoon.

The museum is based in the center of Medellin. Take the subway to the Caribe stop along the river and walk east for a few blocks. You could also head to Universidad Station and go north along Carrera 52 for a couple of minutes. The northern terminal of Medellin’s bus station is just to the west of the museum. You could arrive by cab within five minutes of leaving the terminal. The University of Antioquia and the Joaquin Antonio Uribe Botanical Gardens are nearby.
