Built in the 1920s by the artist and embroiderer Ann Macbeth, High Bield is a remarkable house which was completely refurbished a few years ago. It was built high on the fell and takes in views of Brotherswater and Ullswater and offers walking from the door to High St, Helvellyn, St Sunday Crag, Fairfield and many other popular spots. Almost every room has a spectacular view, especially the twin room which was originally an artist's studio. The house oozes charm and is very comfortable and warm, with a woodburner in the sitting room.

Beautiful location and area
We enjoyed the beautiful area. The cottage is in a beautiful location with a view of lakes and mountain ridges. There are several hiking trails in the area where you can also walk with children. We had some questions during our stay and they were answered quickly. There are quite a lot of things in the cottage, so it takes some puzzling where you can put your own groceries, for example.

High Bield Family holiday
This was our second holiday at High Bield - we stayed 2 years ago. It is a very special place to stay as it is in a wonderful location. We only used the car twice during the one week we stayed because all the walks and cycle rides could be done from the house. Windermere station was only a short drive away so we could easily pick up family arriving from London. Weather wasn’t what we expected in early June - warm for the first couple of days then much cooler with rain for the rest of the week but this didn’t stop us walking and enjoying ourselves. We walked to Hart Crag which was a great 6 hour walk and also did the picturesque shorter Silver Crag walk which was more low level. We managed to have a few bbq’s at the beginning of the week then when it was cooler we enjoyed the warmth of the log burner inside playing board games and relaxing in front of the tv. It is a place where we have made lots of lovely memories and we all want to return. Thoroughly recommend High Bield for a great place to stay. One of the highlights was the US fighter jets flying low level in our valley doing training exercises - they flew over 3 different days. Great excitement for everyone. Such a wonderful house in a lovely location
Lovely warm house in a very quiet area of the lakes. Stunning views.
The drive up to the house is very bumpy, so if you have a low car, I wouldn't even risk it.
We will be returning in the future.

Charming house, perfect for getting away from it all!
We were a family of 8 ranging in age from 15 to 77. The house was perfect and quirky which we loved. Spotlessly clean and everything that we needed was there.
The house is on the hillside and away from it all. We enjoyed walks from there around the nearby lake. Would love to return.

Perfect Stay in the Lakes
High Bield was exactly what we were looking for--elevated property overlooking the pristine valley with privacy and seclusion and the opportunity to walk out of the door and onto the Fells. The owner is attentive and responsive and we received exactly what was promised on the tin. Can't wait to stay there again.

Visit to the Lakes with family, most from USA and some from England
We had a great time in a great location and a great house. We were lucky with very little rain so we did get some good hikes in and wished we had more time to hike right from the house. The drive to anywhere is on winding roads so anyone who gets car sick beware! We absolutely loved the out of the way location and hopefully will be able to return.

Beautiful house with pleasing views in heart of Lake District
The whole process from booking to checking in was smooth and easy. We were a group of 4 adults and 3 children and the house has 5 bedrooms which was great. Children had one spare room just to play in. The property is a standalone lovely house in a quiet village with scenic views and perfect for a retreat. One waterfall was 15 minutes away and we spent few hours there. Windermere visitors center was 22 minutes away and a great day out with family. House is fully equipped with everything you can need with a big range of spices as including curry powder 😁 we came prepared and house had everything to facilitate cooking and preparing meals and enjoying the calmness and serenity. Would love to go back one day as we only stayed for 3 nights.

A beautiful place!
We loved our short break in this wonderful cottage and wish we could have stayed longer. It's beautiful inside and out, with lovely interior decoration, very comfy beds and the location and views are amazing. We did some walks, watched films and played board games. Perfect for three teenagers. Fiona was friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back!
