The Bridge of Towers is a fascinating structure comprised of 10 pillars built on the foundations of a Roman aqueduct. It’s believed to have been built to transport water from the Cortaccione springs to Spoleto. The dimensions of its pillars are inconsistent, indicating they were erected gradually at different periods. It is thought that the oldest parts of the bridge date back to the end of the 14th century.
Notice the fortresses that flank the ends of the bridge. On the northwestern side is the massive Rocca Albornoziana, which dominates the skyline of the surrounding countryside.
