Relax at this charming beach area or explore the surrounding mountains to enjoy some of Mallorca’s best hiking.

Swim or canoe in the idyllic bay or simply lie on the golden sand of the beach near Port de Sóller Lighthouse. Stroll along the promenade to explore small shops selling souvenirs and enjoy a meal at one of the many waterfront cafés and restaurants.

Set at the foot of the dramatic Serra de Tramuntana Mountains, Port de Sóller is easily recognized by the twin lighthouses at either end of the horseshoe-shaped bay. These hark back to the time when the area was a busy commercial port. Now the majority of the boats are pleasure vessels and the town is one of Mallorca’s most popular beach resorts.

Head to the town beach, Playa d’en Repic, and swim in the warm shallow water. Rent a canoe or kayak and paddle in the bay or simply find a quiet spot on the sand and lie under the heat of the midday sun with a cold drink and a good book.

After a day on the beach, enjoy an evening stroll along the promenade behind the bay and choose from several excellent restaurants and cafés. These serve Spanish and Mediterranean delicacies, including freshly caught fish with roasted vegetables. Take a chair at an outside table and watch the changing light on the water.

Hike along some of the scenic trails around the area. Several routes take you through the mountains. On a clear day you will enjoy superb views back across the ocean. If you haven’t come prepared for walking the mountains, try the coastal path to the nearby beach of Es Traves.

Port de Sóller is located on the west coast of Mallorca, about half an hour by car north of Palma Mallorca by bus. It can also be reached by boat. You can find accommodation in the nearby town of Soller or at the port. To travel between the two, ride the old tram that was once used to transport lemons and limes from the hills to the water’s edge.

There's a flashy end near the marina. At the other end (turn left) near the river there's a bakery cum bike hire shop selling fantastic freshly made sandwiches. A few doors down there's a Spar selling the usual stuff at sensible prices. For when you don't want to spend a fortune on a pair of emergency flipflops!

There's more of a buzz in the marina area where the trains terminate but you should explore the whole area - it only takes 45 mins from one end of the bay to the other.

The port was lovely but unfortunately my purse got stolen while I was browsing a shop’s exterior display on my way to Lepanto parking. The thief stole my purse with all my ID documents, driver’s license, credit/debit cards and cash :-( Then I had to go to Soller city centre to submit a police report. This incident somewhat spoilt my vacation.

Lots of places to eat and drink and a very safe beach with plenty of room. Although busy, it feels very quiet. A good place from which to visit nearby Soller, where it is lovely to sit in the square and watch the world - and the trams - go by. Ca'n Prunera modern museum is definitely worth a visit.
