Stroll around this attractive port from where you can catch a ferry to the landscape and cities of the French Mediterranean island of Corsica.

The Port of Toulon is the principal gateway to the city for those traveling by sea. The ferry port is also a departure point for trips to the island of Corsica. With an attractive promenade and great scenery, the Port of Toulon is a pleasant spot for a stroll.

Walk by the waterline to see some of the private boats and yachts. Take a seat by the quayside and watch the sea traffic entering and leaving the port. This is an attractive setting at any time of day, but particularly at dusk when lights from port buildings and boats are reflected by the water.

If you want to travel farther afield during your time in Toulon, book a ferry to Bastia, L’Ile Rousse or Ajaccio on Corsica. The picturesque French island of Corsica is a popular draw because of its wild scenery, gorgeous beaches and beautiful villages and cities.

Depending on where you are going and the route taken, the journey time to Corsica can be between 6 and 11 hours. Go as a foot passenger or take your car with you. There are ferry services to the island throughout the year. Other destinations you can sail to from the Port of Toulon include the Mediterranean island of Sardinia.

While you are at the port, see if there’s anything going on at the Palace of Trade and the Sea. Occasionally, the venue hosts exhibits relating to tourism, hobbies and commerce as well as traveling art exhibitions.

The Port of Toulon is about 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) southeast of the center of the city. It is an easy walk from there, but if you are driving you will find plenty of parking spaces here.

Once you have explored the area, go to the adjacent Toulon Marina where you will find a museum dedicated to naval history.
