I stayed at the Hotel Portsmouth and it was an absolute nightmare from the start. The night I checked in, I found bed bugs crawling on the bed. I reported it to the front desk and even provided the actual bugs. They moved me to another room at midnight. The night employee was a bit flustered but at least apologetic. I hoped the issue would end there, but the next morning, I was switched again to yet another room. The experience was chaotic and, I was already wary of the cleanliness and safety of the hotel. During the rest of my stay no one followed up with me to address the issue. Upon checkout I asked for an update on the matter to make sure no other guests would suffer. I even showed the woman at the front desk the bites on my neck. I expected some concern and action. Instead, the staff denied everything, claiming there was "no evidence" of bugs in the room. I guess physical bugs and uncomfortable bites don't count? The staff member even insisted that "bed bugs only bite ankles," which is simply not true. The lack of professionalism and empathy was shocking. Not only did they fail to follow up, but I was left feeling ignored and frustrated. Dealing with bed bugs is bad enough, but the staff’s dismissive attitude made the situation far worse. I strongly advise against staying at this hotel until they take responsibility for their facilities and train their staff to handle such issues properly. Save yourself the stress and discomfort—stay elsewhere.

It is an excellent, convenient hotel near shopping and dining areas, pleasant stuff. Breakfast could be improved by providing hot (not warm) coffee and plain Greek yogurt.

Beautiful Interior Decor of the communal spaces and the hotel room. The staff was really friendly and helpful recommending places to have dinner and/or a drink. Loved the proximity of all the near by bars and restaurants to the hotel. Wished would have stay longer. Definitely recommend others to stay at the Hotel Portsmouth.

The whole experience was wonderful. Amanda greeted us the first evening and was an absolute rockstar. The hotel is beautifully decorated, is so comfortable and the location is fantastic for all there is to do in Portsmouth. Really wonderful experience!!

Charming and beautiful. Every detail about this historic hotel is thought out. Unique wallpaper and decorations follow from room to room. Friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast was excellent. Many options, including great gluten free options for my daughter with celiac.
