Enjoy a day of family-friendly adventure and relaxation at Carneiros Beach (Praia dos Carneiros). This stunning, untamed beach is loved for its enticing water, scenic boat trips and waterfront bars. Carneiros Beach boasts a pristine strip of powdery white sand backed by a grove of swaying coconut trees. It sits to the north of the town of Tamandaré and looks out across the piercing blue water of the Atlantic Ocean.
The beach’s calm, shallow water is ideal for cooling off from the hot sun with an invigorating swim. Marvel as schools of multicolored tropical fish dart around the seabed. The ocean is clear enough to spot the fish without the use of snorkeling equipment. During low tide a series of natural tidal pools appear, which are perfect for bathing and spotting aquatic creatures.
Go for a stroll along the seashore and pause to visit the St. Benedict Chapel. This quaint colonial-style church dates back to the 1700s. The church sometimes hosts wedding ceremonies.
At the north end of the beach, small catamarans and speedboats line the shore waiting to take visitors on cruises. Sit back and admire the stunning natural scenery from the water. Stop to walk on sandbanks and rejuvenate the body in one of the clay mud pools. Some tours also include a cruise along the nearby river estuary.
When hunger strikes, visit one of the waterfront bars and restaurants. Dine on light snacks and plates of fresh seafood. Be sure to try moqueca, a fish or shrimp stew with coconut milk, tomatoes, peppers and spices.
Carneiros Beach is a 15-minute drive from Tamandaré’s town center. Access is via the roads to chalets and posadas. These are great accommodation options if you want to stay overnight at the beach. The beach is also a popular daytrip destination from Porto de GalinhasOpens in a new window and RecifeOpens in a new window.
