Really enjoyed our stay here. The check in and check out process was easy; they were able to store our bags before check in and after checkout while waiting on our room/ride. The room was very clean and they freshened it up every day. The bed was fairly comfortable, the air conditioning and hot water worked great. We were on the first floor, so it was a little noisy. The beach was clean and it was nice to have chairs/umbrellas, but it was frustrating that they allowed people to leave just a beach towel to save chairs for hours. People do set up right in front of the “private” beach area, and there are constantly vendors walking by to sell jewelry, massages, or food; but I think that’s just the PV beach experience. Overall, we had a great time!

Reserved through Expedia a certain room, checked in and got something totally different cause they didn’t have my room anymore. The room I got was filthy, no queen or king size bed for me and my girlfriend. Looked like no one had stayed in that room for a long time, very old bedding and bugs on the bed, smell musky, very outdated. Definitely not something I wanted to stay in. Checked back out canceling it immediately within the hour of arriving, got a room somewhere else. Tried many many times to see if I could get a refund through Expedia since they had to go through the hotel to “get approval” for a refund and all the hotel would do is give them the run around with No manager on site, or call a different time etc. It was not my fault at all that they did not have the room that I had reserved therefore I thought maybe I could get something back specially not staying there for more then an hour. Did not get any refund whatsoever. I do not recommend this hotel or this process to anyone at all. If you choose to reserve a certain room through Expedia maybe ensure to call ahead to make sure they have your room BUT by the time your cancelation date for your reservation has expired, more then likely they might not have the room because the cancelation expiration date is a few days before your arrival. Very bad experience overall and a few hundred dollars lost and much time wasted making calls etc.

I enjoyed the property though my room was located pool side and the hotel speakers were directly outside my door and woke me up very early every morning which was very irritating. My suggestion would to be not have the hotel music playing until minimum 10am.

Great value for location! There is no coffee, wifi or fridge in the room. Wifi is pretty decent in common areas. Lots of seating on beach. Restaurant food was alright, but pricey as were drinks. Servers were all lovely.

We had a wonderful stay at the hotel. The pools are very clean and wonderful. The beach is clean and very nice as well. Some reviews say that only one pool is open, but now both pools are open. We had a room on the eighth floor that overlooked the ocean and it was absolutely gorgeous. The only thing that could’ve made better would be if there were refrigerators and microwaves in the rooms. It’s difficult even to drink cold water without having a refrigerator. It’s hard to bring leftovers without fridge. There are 2 convenience stores just steps outside the hotel. There are restaurants everywhere and markets very close. The Malecón is easily within walking distance. We would definitely stay again. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant. The hotel is in the romantic zone. The bus stop is just a few blocks away. The staff was always nice and helpful.

This is not a luxury resort. It does not pretend to be. But I've been coming here for probably 8 years and will continue for as long as I can. The location is perfect. Everything in old town is walking distance. The beach is beautiful. I do wish they'd rake it a bit more often, and the beach chairs could use some maintenance. The hotel is very clean. The people working there are nice and friendly. (Of course, I am friendly with them.) I don't usually eat there, so I won't comment on food. For what I pay, and the experience I get, this hotel is perfect. If you are looking for a boogie place, this is not it. If you are looking for a great place to experience Puerto Vallarta, this is it. Thank you Hotel Tropicana for another great stay!

Some upper management at the front desk were very uncooperative when it came to exchanging money from larger pesos to smaller pesos. I wanted to leave more people a smaller tip and was unable to do because of this. They were very extremely dismissive.

PROS - • On the beach • Staff at beach access to ensure only guests were allowed onto property • Noemi and Jorje at front desk worked with me to resolve issues (no safe and no roll away bed) • Bell hops were wonderful • The housekeeping staff was awesome • Pool servers were attentive • Free water bottles were delivered and placed in bottle stand • Availability of an on-site restaurant CONS - • Very dated property RENTED A JUNIOR SUITE AND - • Safe didn't operate • No clock/alarm clock • Only coffee mugs no other glassware • Minimal kitchen utensils, plates and bowls • Minimal stovetop cookware • No knife block with sharp knives • No dish soap • Only one small kitchen towel • No paper towels BATHROOM • Minimal linens POOL AREA • Pool water was nasty and was finally cleaned a week into our stay • Limited pool deck space and loungers • No policing / cleaning up trash on pool deck • Loungers are in terrible shape • Loungers were crowded together making it difficult to get into/out of them • Would only issue one towel per person and many towels were tattered and torn • Second pool closed and being updated/retiled • Construction noise all day long with drills and other equipment MISCELLANEOUS ISSUES • Restaurant and front desk staff requested tips

We loved being in the new part of the hotel and having a little balcony looking into the ocean. Our room was very quiet except for the crashing of the waves! The hotel is located close to the Malecon and there were lots of dining options.
